Hi guys, i am curious as to why there are so many decent cars in adelaide/SA.

I just got back from adelaide today after visiting relatives for 2 days, and was amazed at how many imports are driving around over there. Within 2 days i saw 3 AE86's, 2 GTR skylines, 6 GTS-T skylines, and a rediculous amount of silvias (15+), and that was just while walking around a very small part of town (the city, glenelg and norewood)

I was just wondering if there is a particluar reason for this. Is it because of more leniant compliance/roadworthy standards, or is there another reason?

    Cheers

I live in the Norhtern area of South Australia, sad to say I dont see so many up here.. Its all country and commonwhore town, but I have been to the adelaide hills on one of the more recent AE86 cruises in Adelaide.. I would have to beleive the amount of import cars are in Adelaide and the southern hills for the fact of the mountains and windy roads are there, I had a blast in my Sprinter when I went there but havent been since as ive no time and my cars recently been defected..

Mind you I have been to as far as elizabeth and salsbury a few times, the amount of R32 and R33s is crazy in these areas!

I dont know much of other states road worthy leniance, is S.A. such a tough state? Or is it slack here?

Adelaides roadworthy standards are actually quite high. On par if not better than the eastern states from what I have heard. But the advantage we have over here is the lack of annual roadworthy inspections and the need for a pink slip(?) when ever you sell a vehicle. So in theory,if you never get defected you can get away with whatever you want. However, try and drive around Adelaide on a regular basis in a modified vehicle and you will find out just how hard it is to get away with not getting defected. The traffic popo here are incredibly heavy handed. But as long as you lay low anythings possible.

Interesting that you brang this up actually. I spent a week in Sydney staying with a mate of mine who lives on Bay st and I could not believe the cars that were doing laps every night. Nearly every car was slammed on 20z plus and the cops just didnt seem to be interested. Each and everyone of those cars would have been reamed with a defect sticker in seconds back here in SA.

i think part of the reason also for alot of modified imports in adelaide is because they got there drifting comps up and running before anywhere else in aus.....am i right?

It's cause we're better than the rest of the country.

I actually think it's cause we don't have anything better to do, so we build pointless tramlines, one way freeways and awesome cars.
You can have any brew you want... as long as it's a Datsun / Corolla / What is that?
