just wondering if anyone can tell me if *a6* or xt130 front struts are a comparable size to ae71??

looking for a front end upgrade for cheap without changing to coilover. i.e using lowering springs in one of the above? has anyone done this??

need brakes to keep up with the GZE thats sittin in the garage itching to go in!!

    any heap appreciated

They are comparable. It depends on what brakes you want as to what route you go.

If you want vented brakes that are sort of ok and fit in a 13" wheel, get AE86 struts and steering knuckles, then get the JDM vented disks. Sort of on the small side...

If you want HiLux 4 spot calipers on a vented disk to fit in 14" wheels, get the XT130 struts, but you need to swap the strut tops. The corona brakes are a mild upgrade, then the 4 spots will sort of bolt on later.

For a GZE, you really need vented disks. The cheapest and most effective upgrade is what I did at one time:
XT130 struts, with the spring mount cut off and the corolla one welded on. Corolla top mount and strut top is used. Standard XT130 oil shock is used, but thicker 30 weight oil is used. Vented disk and hub from a YR21 Tarago, which bolts on. Tarago brake caliper, with a addapter bracket I made myself. (YR21 Tarago brakes look the same as JDM AE86, but bigger).

Order King springs to fit your Corolla, and specify the spring rate. They will send you any spring rate you want. Then if you want it lower, just chop off 1/4 of a coil.

Another brake option on the XT130 strut is RA60 hubs and discs and MX62 calipers. Needs a little bit of machining and a spacer, but has been shown to work. There's a thread on toymods titled "$250 vented brake upgrade" or similar.

Johnny, how was camber affected with the XT130 struts? Do they add positive camber?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Hen is a total nutcase @ Jan 21 2008, 09:32 AM) </div>I also believe Cruzida or someone similar on toymods are manufacturing a bracket so you can affix a Nissan 4 spot (R33/Z32/R32 GTR) to an XT130 strut (possibly MX62, my memory isn't that great) with a 300zx rotor (? maybe).

Will check and confirm in a minute.
You can have any brew you want... as long as it's a Datsun / Corolla / What is that?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Javal @ Jan 21 2008, 11:53 AM) </div>Not the XT130 strut. They are 90mm bolt spacing for the caliper. Nissan stuff is 100mm.

I think it was for RA60 or MX73 or something like that.

Nope, it was the XT130 strut.

But i just found this one too, which looks a whole lot easier using the RA60 strut:

OK, I must have it the wrong way round.

    <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Hen is a total nutcase @ Jan 21 2008, 11:39 AM) </div>Well you were right, the upgrade can be done on the MX73 / RA60 / XT130 / RT132 struts.

I think it's easier to do on the RA60 strut for one reason or another, but it's done on the XT130 / RT132 struts because the RA60's cause positive camber in the early celicas.

I dunno, i haven't read into it too much.

However GT-R brakes on a sprinter is pretty badass.

RA60 arms are identical length to AE86 by my measurements.
