Todd, I don't mean to be rude but I am an Approved Engineering Signatory, while you are clearly not. The Commonwealth legislation states that the vehicle must remain compliant with the ADR's that were listed at the time of production. Therefore if I fit a 2001 enigine to a 1986 vehicle then the car only has to comply with 1986 ADR. This is further ratified by VSB14 - The National Code of Practice for light vehicle modifications. If you are having to get other stuff done for the engineer to sign off on it, then that is the perogitive of the engineer and not part of legislation. There are a lot of other things that may effect the emmissions such as crank case ventilation but my comments stand with regards to the fitment of aftermarket ECU's

Dimitri, pardons, I didn't know that the tune had to be un-tamp-erable (yeah, I know what you meant, lol). This is why I said that that was the deal as far as I knew. My impressions is that emissions is where they're heading these days, because hi-po cars naturally have poor emissions ratings.
I can't stress enough that anyone that wants to be 100% legal (good luck) should be consulting an automotive engineer, that they probably have to pay for consultation time. Not internet forums. Too much BS on the internet regarding regulatory stuff, even if the person posting the info firmly believes they're telling the truth.

Where will it stop? Will it ever be finished? How will it go? Why am I not wearing any pants?
An engineer like myself perhaps??? Happy to give advice via PM for those that need it.

Paul
yeah. spell check doesnt like "untamperable" but it is the word they use.
i agree with above as far as consulting an engineer. but the guidelines for light vehicle modification are freely available on the internet, and ive posted them here many times.

dummy ecu is the go man, get a tune to emissions spec so it passes, tell engineer its a standard ecu, i have one here that fits right over my adaptronic, its from a dr30 skyline had a fj20det in it, the case fits over an adapt but its a squeeze, still works but, the engineer i took mine to didnt look twice at it
Thats awesome to know dude.... lol, I thinks its the way Im going to have to approach it...![]()

yeah, they wont look too hard at it if u tell them its standard and gives a good reading
might cost you a bit getting a tune to do so though, can see it taking a lil more time to tune than a regular "pull power out of it and make it run fairly smooth" tune
If you are getting it tuned to "emissions spec" then why bother with putting a cover over it? I know you keep coming back to adjustability but that argument makes no sense otherwise holden or ford wouldn't be able run the ECU's that they do on their cars because you can tune them. For what it is worth, I have got an Adatronic fitted to mine and that will be engineered with it in, also I am doing another sprinter that is running an Autronic.
Cheers
