Right near the bell housing on TOP of the transmission, you will find a "switch". Those break quite often.
Also a sneaky point to trip you up is that not only is there a switch, but there is also a ballbearing which presses the switch.
I was troubleshooting the same problem once. Pulled switch, pressed it, it worked, so I thought it was fine. But the ballbearing was missing so that when installed the switch was never pressed.

LMFAO i have been scratching my head for the last 3 days trying to figure this out...
okay cool ill check that out. how do i access that 'switch'
can i just rip out that shit thing covering my gear shifter and look under it
or do i have to get under the car
are the plugs same as the switch that us_ae86 is talking about? lol i hope so
thanks alot guys!
nope, you're gettin under the car mate, grab a multimeter or a test light and a helper(someone to slip it in and out of revearse while you're under it checking) GL
total bitch to get to, if you can't get under there with a multi
OR can't get access via your gearstick console...
then you'll have to disconnect your tailshaft...and your bellhousing from the block...and lower it down and fiddle round.
my t50 20 spline one was pretty r00ted when i looked at it, still worked tho..
check your 'lamp' fuse too.
