    My personal thoughts

There both made in the same factory...

Go the cheaper option unless you're chasing major power or boosting your motor.

    Just my opinion

I had ACL pistons put into a worked NA engine.

In my opinion, i don't think there could be a worse brand.

    They kept cracking...

Engine was built by Ron Hill Automotive.

For a stock engine you can't go past the Toyota pistons. You will get years of service and hundreds of thousands of Km out of them. But for performance there are many great brands. I did a lot of research when I was building my N/A motor and I went for Arias pistons. ACL in my opinion are a entry level performance piston. Jump on the net and have a look around. There are some good piston/rod combos around also. I went PauterArias and could not be happier with the quality.

maybe I can clear up a few issues, since I run an engine shop
JCC is a bottom end brand. no particular problems, but not my 1st choice for a performance engine.
we have used thousands of sets of ACL pistons at work over the years and rarely had a problem when installed and used as recommended.
ACL is a supplier to Toyota for their melbourne engine plant, but as far as I know, not for 4AG pistons which are made in japan by at least 2 different companies.
Mahle (German company) is a part owner of the ACL piston factory in australia but they don't offer Mahle branded cast 4AG pistons here. The ACL "race series" forged pistons are made in the USA to ACL's designs. I have worked on the designs of 4AGZE and 3SGTE pistons with the ACL-Mahle engineers
There are numerous different brand/types of pistons for 4AG ranging from $200/set upwards. IMHO, you only need forged pistons in NA race engines. Good quality cast pistons will take quite a hiding in a street driven NA engine, that is properly built, so it comes down to expected use and budget.
if you want help with quality pistons, send me a PM
