Hey guys,
Got a problem with my bigport 4age. Not majorly concerned as I only need the car to drive for about 10 mins each day which it does fine, and have another engine already on the way, but just wondering what the problem could be.
When I start my car, instead of idling at 2000rpm, it sits around 1400, but drives fine. then after it has got warm, it starts to idle at around 200-300 revs. The car still drives fine, even at this low idle. If i tap the accelerator, the revs drop a little bit, and sometimes idles so low, that just tapping the accelerator can result in the engine turning off. I'm pretty sure it isn't my coil as it is fairly new and has been relocated away from the extractors.
I had a problem recently with the coolant temp sensor causing the engine to flood, but have replaced it and drives a lot better but idle has never been perfect since
Just curious to see what you guys reckon it could be.
Sounds like someone fiddled with the idle adjustment screw.
The screw is down a hole at the side of the throttle body (has
a black rubber plug on top usually), and adjusts the idle speed
by bleeding air past the throttle butterfly.
Try opening it up to see if you can get your HOT idle up
to 800 rpm.
