They aren't trained to be friendly. Instead they are trained to push your buttons to get some sort of aggressive, or rude response which is their excuse to throw the book at you once you crack.

Don't buy into it, remain cool and calm, and if they ask anything that's outside the realms of normal police work, such as; 'you getting any (while nudging you and pointing to your girl in the front seat)?', or 'are you stupid or something?', etc, you should not respond at all. They record their conversations with motorists every time by law so watch your words. Its best to know exactly what you said afterward, don't get upset and start ranting. 98 percent of all crimes that are successfully prosecuted are done so on admissions by suspects.

If they say something racist, blatantly rude and insulting or make threats about how they could bust you for crimes that didn't happen, just respond politely and correctly, stating clearly what you perceive to have happened. Point out that his behavior would be considered corruption once you bring it to the attention of their bosses. Use your inside voice.

One classic line that has worked for me many a time, is "Look, i feel it only fair to warn you at this point since your behavior is really quite poor towards me, that my father is a QC. Hes already destroyed the careers of 22 police officers for overstepping their boundaries and taking liberties, I think you might be next if this keeps going." That line stops them dead in their tracks in QLD.

They're all still shit scared since the Fitzgerald inquiry. It works on security gaurds too. I used it on a security gaurd once when I was 18 to avoid a flogging and the first thing the cops said when they arrived afterwards was, so what does your father do? No threats to prosecute, no other comments, just asked straight up about what my dad does. i was questioned and let go (since I didn't do anything anyhow).

If you deny doing anything wrong politely and he starts bullying you, just politely let it happen, then show up at the police station in the morning to make a freedom of information request to get the tape and the transcription which they have to provide by law. You can then review it and decide whether you have a case to take disciplinary action against the officer/s involved. When I did this, I was presented with a fudged and falsified transcript by the stupid officer who was trying to cover his tracks. This only aided my case of proving his corruption, since I sought a brief adjournment to gather further evidence (the actual tape). I think he thought Id be steamrolled through the thing in court on the day, but I wasn't having that.

There is no reason to have anybody complain about how you have no power and are being exploited. You have the right to make the Policeman answer for his actions.

If you truly are being harassed just get all the tapes and make a case. i find this type of thing quite fun.

ive got away with murder and never raised my voice and been harrased, same deal as said, they record everything, deny deny deny, pleasantly, they arc up and go crazy, try and find other things to get you for like bald tyres and stuff, but just keep your mouth shut.

Also, has any body thought about this, the number of people who die every year in car crashes has been decreasing at about 6% per year, until the last 3 years, where it has been 2-3%,

the average revenue per year is over 450mil, the wages for police is over 100mil in one year, amount of money spent on equipment is around 30mil a year,

so australians, are paying almost 600million a year, for nothing, even if there were an extra 15 people "saved" are those 15 people worth 600Million.

Yeah its funny what they miss. I had one point at a thermofan and say I needed a shroud for safety reasons. I asked him if he could touch the blade, he couldn't, but he still insisted. Its best just to agree and try to make a him step back by being friendly and open. If Id have been trying to correct him at that point, I might have got worse than the speeding fine i was pulled over for. That was back when i didn't have my charcoal cannister connected to the tank, and I had no mod plates for the brakes or suspension that was in the car. I also had an adaptronic vidigauge for the dash and no cluster. If he wanted to cause me some heartache, then he could have. If you just take the time to explain yourself fully and tell them its a process that takes a bit of time, to build a car, tidy everything up and get engineering done, and that you are currently part way through this process, they will usually understand. If they catch you doing something again, then you'll be in trouble but most times they will understand.

It has a lot to do with what you are getting pulled over for, too.

Don't you get it? This is exactly the type of attitude that they will use to your disadvantage. I'll say it again. They push your buttons to make you react.

What you have just said is, "when they push my buttons I react."

Think about it. You cannot claim that you were victimised if you just give the cop cheek, that's seen as provocation and disrespect for the law.

Mate head overseas and see what the police do over there.
In Vietnam, my folks bus that was driving from the airport was pulled over by police for an "inspection". Bus driver had to hand over a shiteload of cash to make sure it wasn't taken to the impound for a "closer inspection."
While this transaction was taking place, the other 20 police at the blockade were just pulling over random scooters and cars and taking money off them as well.
Apparently, their boss gives them a certain amount to meet in a week, he takes that money to feed his family and then pay his boss, and so it goes up the cycle.

In Russia they will just walk up to you, take your passport off you then act like they havent seen you if you don't give them a bribe.
In poorer Africa, almost nothing happens unless you pay an extra "service fee".
Even Japan, safest country in the world, if you even have a margin of doubt against you then you could be fucked. 99% of cases taken to court are found guilty in Japan, as its assumed that you being in that situation proves your guilt.

Give me Australian police any day of the week.

I have had a few run ins with less then professional police like alot of you, and to the thread poster your situation seems all too familiar. Some are just ignorant, some are on powertrips and are c*nts, some will appear that way just to get a reaction out of you. But like driftke70 says, just deny everything, don't arc up at them. Just play the good private school boy, yes sir no sir, I wasn't aware of that officer etc.

Problem is, it only takes 1 wanker cop on a power trip that goes to town on you and your car to ruin the memory of 10 nice cops before him.

I agree with most of what has been said here - cops are people too, for the most part if you be polite then they will return the favour, and if they don't well at least you haven't provoked them into being more of a tool bag. It's like abusing people in a restaurant - its a great way to get your food spat in, isn't it?

They are there to do a job, and just like any other job some are regular decent people trying to do the right thing and uphold the law, while others want to do the massive power trip and then go home and bat off over how they used their badge to put one over you.

Life isn't always fair and we don't always get treated the way we want but sometimes unfortunately we just need to shut up and cop it
