    Engine
    jdm bigport bluetop.

it has happened to me twice so far and i don't want it to happen again.

Seems after a cold night the car doesn't want to start. Cranks and all, i have found that there is no spark on both ocassion *the lead going to the dizzy*. After i give it a few minutes of cranking and leave it to sit for a few minutes it starts. On both ocassion removing the valley port cover seems to help. It feels as if the ignition balaster doesn't give spark or something could this be the reason? or is it an earthing issue?

Both times happened after cold nights, to the point where water condensation gathers on the windows.

    help me out.

u say its cranking over but is it cranking over as fast as normal ?

batterys don't like cold mornings and if its tired the voltage could be dropping to low to switch the ecu etc on.... maybe just a thought

ignition systems usually fail when they are hot.. but not to say its not that tho

try pumping the pedal on cranking, it might help you. my ae86 has no cold start of idle advance and thats the only way to start it when cold, acts like a carby engine (even though mines injected) without a choke

Had this problem with my old car...

Turned out that engine could not crank fast enough to trigger an ignition signal...if roll started it was fine

Solved by using a bigger battery...only required through winter

cranks over normally like same as usual not slower.
Battery is new from autobarn one of those century ones. also its rated as being highest output for the size and fitting of jdm battery plugs.
i don't think its the battery because i can crank it endlessly and it won't get tired. *when i try to get it going*

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Mello @ Mar 11 2008, 08:54 PM) </div>I would change the balast resistor and coil, could be a worn balast or a hairline crack in the coil and when cold it gets condensation in it and won't work.

edit just thought have you checked to see if you have power (not) spark at the coil? Switch or short in ignition circuit maybe?

how long since you've changed the lead's? maybe try a lil dilectric grease around all the boot's. cold usualy = moist = something arcing somewhere.

Possibly condensation in a ignition component
