So what part of this Tail shaft would be good to keep for T-Series upgrade? The spoontah bit?

To work out if it is a AE86 T50 front half, count the splines inside the front yoke. 22 = good. 20 = bad.
To work out if the rear half is T or S or otherwise, measure the length between the centres of the uni joint pins on the main shaft section. I can't remember clearly, but I think 660mm = S series, 650 = T series.
Also it is bloody hard to idnetify these sort of things over the internet. I'd recommend putting it in the shed, and once you fit your T50 and T series check to see it fits. If not then bin it and find the right parts.

i had to do a similar thing to fit a s series diff in an ae71 cos the tailshaft mounting point was different/closer.
and yes, the factory ae71 sedan has a 2 piece tailshaft (just doesnt have the flang)
