put your 300 dollars towards a 4age
Hey all.
I'm looking to get one of the bee*r rev limiters for my sprinter. Can they be installed on a car that does not have an ecu.. such as a 4ac Sprinter...
Thanks!

word.
can be done. but if you drive it properly there is no need for one as you shouldnt hit the limmiter on a 4ac lol
not you can't put it on a standerd sprinter 4ac because it has points but if you put a later carolla electronic distributor on it you could but whats the point its only ever going to be a 4ac

you can put it on your regular 4ac
there is a wire that goes from your dizzy to your negative side of the coil, this wire forces the coil to calapse and thus make your spark. the wire is connected straight to the points setup in your dizzy. if you cut this wire no more spark for your engine = rev limit.
so all you gota do is figure out how the rev limiter works, and make a circuit that cuts this wire when the rpm is reached. either by using a relay or a transistor.
i was going to make a rev limiter for my car (4kc woot) just for fun, out of a shift light and a relay, using same principle as above.
i woudlnt go spending your money on a bee-r one, over rated in my opinion, everything they do can be made for ALOT cheaper with the same effect

i'm doing some work to the 4ac i have at the moment. Yes i know its like walking down a dead end alley. I am still on the look out for a 4agze or something. But at the moment i have this 4ac, a worked head, a lumpy as fuck cam and twin webers on a custom manfiold that i can and have put on it. It probably won't put out much power, but i have these things and thought, why not!
So back to putting a Rev Limiter on it. 1. i want a rev limiter if i'm going to be drifting it. 2. th bee*r also has the added OMG LOOK AT ME effect with the flames and backfiring.
So.... after reading what ke70dave said. I gather, yes, it can be installed onto my car? how else could i go about getting the same effects as the bee*r without buying one?
Thanks.
Rev limit on 4ac/4kc = valve bouncing.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (choonga @ Mar 16 2008, 12:13 PM) </div>same effect as a rev limiter, but on the cheap is:-
get:
cheap adjustable shift light (seen them on ebay and maybe autobahn/supercheap)
ordinary relay (12V automotive one)
open up up the shift light and find the wires that control the actual light itself, hopefully this is a 12V power source for when its time to "shift". run these wires out of the shift light and run them into the engine bay somewhere.
next find the wire i am talking about from the dizzy-->coil, should be black as its a negative, you might have to experiment with some. it will be the same wire that you use to tell the shift light what RPM the engine is doing i think....either way it is the negative pulse from the dizzy to tell the coil when to fire.
next get this wire and cut it, and put your 12V automotive relay inline with it. use the wires from the shift light to trigger this relay. make sure you wire the relay up in NORMALLY ON mode, so that when the shift light lights up, the relay will close up, thus cutting the wire, and thus "limiting" your engine. then once the rpm has dropped below the desired "shift point" the relay will open back up and ignition will fire as normal.
this is EXACTLY how a bee r one works (cept in cars with coil packs/ignitors they just cut the power to something else to stop the spark from working), except they come with a few extra features, like duration of "limit" (essentially just a capacitor to hold the charge across the relay) and i think they come with something where you can hook it up to your handbrake and "limit" the rpm at a certain rpm for launch starts (drag racing). this is achievable, if you want i can explain it, but its point less i reckon.
if you need any more help with it PM me and i can explain it more in detail if you like with diagrams etc
just don't buy a bee R limiter (they are like 300$ or something stupid??), waste of cash *awaits flamage*

a normal realy wouldn't give the same effect would it????
i would think maybe using a flasher can from a blinker setup would be the go as it will turn spark on and off constantly
yeah you can do that i spose, not really much difference
it will have the same effect, as it will cut the ignition, then as soon as the rpm drops, it will engage it, then cut it, then it will drop, then engage it...so it will work the same.
