<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Vezza @ Mar 29 2008, 08:24 AM) </div>yeah just improving the baffles in the tank would solve the problem but involves fabrication that i wouldn't be able to try myself...

Egg_83 - yep i been trying to keep above 1/4 for years... its certainly the cheapest way around the problem for most of us.

Hey guys how do you determine if you have a jdm one or not "bought car unknown history ??? also if i were to use 2 vl fuel pumps would it be ok ? one as the lift and one as the efi supply ? ive got 1 spare that i paid nothing for , or should i go out and get a external low pressure ?

reecegze, See KE70Daves diagram. He is correct that only 1 high pressure pump is required for the setup (keep your spare for if your other breaks down). Just the fuel rail needs to maintain high pressure. i would recommend an external low pressure pump to accompany - especially if you are fitting a surge tank.
What i know about the jdm tank is that it has better baffling and a built in low pressure fuel pump - if you are asking how you can tell visually, hopefully someone can post a Pic or a descritpion of the difference for ya.

(in regards to reecegze) nope don't use a VL fuel pump for the lift pump

you need a high volume/low pressure pump to feed into the surge tank (simliar to an electric pump used in carburett'd engines)

just make sure the volume of flow of the lift pump far excedes the flow of the high pressure pump (Easy to do, as the high pressure ones don't pump much, they just pump what they do at high pressure..you know it makes sense)

VL fuel pump is fine for the high pressure (to engine) line

why is everyone so obsessed with these VL fuel pumps anyway???? there are other cars that use external pumps.....

for what its worth, just buy a bosch pump, you don't need a big one, and then its brand new....none of this VL crap....

(I'm mostly just being silly as a pump is a pump...but why keep referring to VL ones!!!)

and as for fiding out if you have a JDM tank, take out the fuel pump/fuel guage assmbly, and stick your head inside your fuel tank and see for your self! (dotn breath in or spontaneously combust) if its jdm, it will have baffles everywhere...

I'm using a VT commonwhore (or similar) in tank pump. It already has a swirl pot (surge tank) built in but fitting it requires making a larger hole in the tank and machining 2 rings, one to weld to the tank and to drill and tap 8 - 10 holes in, and one to clamp down on the pump assembly from the top. The pump is at least 4 bar (60psi), and can support a lot more power than most NA 4age's make, prob around 230 flywheel kw. The pump has 2 pickups and 2 deliveries. One set takes fuel from the main tank and fills the swirl pot (around 600ml estimate). The second set takes fuel from the pot and sends it to the fuel rail. Both pickups have filters, the final delivery has a high flow filter outside the tank.
And the best part? The pump assembly was $46 bucks from a wrecker. Even if I had bought it brand new it would have been less than $300.

I'll be installing this on Thursday with bit of luck. I'll attempt to post some pictures.

^^ I'm very interested in this setup

could you possibly get some pictures of what you pulled out of the VT?

    Here's a link

This one is actually slightly different in that it is internally pressure regulated. I'm running a return setup so I didn't want this type. This is for a returnless setup.
I forgot to mention, it also has a gauge sender in it, but I probably won't use it, I'll stick with the stock one. Save me having a spare hole to blank off.

    that is really quite cool...

so there is 2 pickups, but only one pump?

I'm a little confused as to how it works.

is there a small pump inside that white reservoir (i assume this is the swirl pot)?

Yep, that's right. I suspect the pump has a small vane that is driven off the base of the spindle and a larger one above that drives the high pressure side of the pump. This idea was floated to me by an ex holden engineer and it's so simple, it just might be the shizzle.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Vezza @ Mar 29 2008, 09:24 AM) </div>thats what I did to mine, i still get fuel surge around a long corner when I have less than 5L in the tank though. I will in due time fit a surge tank under my car.

Cleaning a tank to make it non flamable is easy as, costs $1.
