i got a cressida and i had a warning light the shape of an engine come on would any know what that means

If it stays on you need to find out the code that the ECU is reporting.
Have to look up the procedure to get the code from a workshop manual or find it on a forum somewhere. Either that or use a scantool to pull the code from it..
Once you know what is faulting, Then you have to fix it..
May have to clear the code once more and it should stay gone..

could it be just a service warning
I doubt it, I am pretty sure most cars the engine light only comes on when there is a problem somewhere that the computer has picked up on..
Find a manual on it anyway, Will be a quicker way to find out for sure..
