Has this happened to anyone else before.

    Possible Reasons?? how to fix??

Had a Autogauge watertemp gauge installed, was working perfect for 12-16mths something like that , then all of a sudden stopped reading correct, would only go up too 50deg c . Not "read correct" and stop at 50, when water was warm the needle hadnt moved. So its delayed type of thing.

Ok its a 10$ ebay heap of shit, so i thought might aswell shell out on a brand name item.

Enter Speco sport comp , some problem .

I got a new gauge and sendor send to me just incase, i know these things can be sensitive and don't like being dropped . Still happens

HMMM what now, new gauge and new sendor, all new wires (too eliminate faulty wires) excact same thing.

Ive sinse been able to find out that the gauge always reads 30deg less then it should. Water at 80 then gauge says 50, water at 90 then gauge reads 60.

Any ideas people, ive tried all locigal theories but don't let that stop you throwing ideas at me. Ill try just about anything once or twice.

Any help id greatly appreciated as always.

I might post this on a few forums, more responses that way.

i had the exact same problem.

first i had the cheap auto guage. it was reading 100 when it was 80. then i got a speco, same proble. i was using it for about a year like that.

recently got a couple of autometer ones. work perfect.

i could not work it out. i tried running a different guage wire and everything.

now it is reading perfect with the autometer sports comp guages.

maybe try earths?? if the housing of the sender is not earthed corectly it will send a lesser reading.

One would hope you're using the aftermarket sender (to the gauge only) as well as the standard sender (to the ECU).

Running both off one can give terrible readings, throw both the gauge and the ECU off.

    yep!

make sure you get a proper sender for your guage

do not mix and match senders and guages!!!!!

each guage requires a specific sender to make it work.

the guage and sender should have a resistance rating. for example the guage might go from like 20-200ohms (just example) so if you get a sender that reacts from like 20-300 ohms then the scale is going to be completely out. and you will get wrong readings. exactly what you are describing, wrong resistance readings for each temperature.

my personal opinion is go and buy a proper VDO guage (none of this cheap gauge stuff)

a VDO guage will cost you about 50$, and then a sender for it about 30$. and make sure when you buy the sender, you look in the catalogue at the resistance ratings, as the guys from repco are pretty noobs on this.

i would also run a brand new sender wire straight from the sender to the gauge, and nothing in between!!

I understand what you are all saying i really do, but why would the autogauge read wrong when it use to read fine, and the autogauge doesnt read anything now and the speco acts the same as autogauge did before.

I did get in there today and clean it all out, it was a little dirty build-up off muck, cleaned it all out, still the same.

Also if i earth straight from sendor to battery earth is it meant to read full hot, i guess that means the gauge has a good earth.

Ill go get a autometer 1 then.
