If thats a reco'ed starter for $95 its pretty cheap, especially if its got a new solenoid.

I replaced my starter solenoid for $80, which is 95% of what fails in the starter motors. To actually burn out the motor itself is pretty rare.

Second hand starters go from $40 - $100, but again the condition of the contacts in the solenoid would be unknown.

    Jonny's article is good.

When mine died I went to the wreckers & bought a replacement - alledgedly an ae82 twincam starter. At least, thats what I asked for.

Was $40 with a 3 month warranty, otherwise they had reco'd ones for $90 (sounded too cheap though, I didn't believe it).

Anyhow it fit fine, the only difference was the location of the solenoid (is rotated around further on the starter housing than the "jdm" one I had) which made it harder to get in (had to remove oil filter, but still cleared extractors fine).

It didn't have the heat shield like some do (probably bad for longevity in the long run - but for $40 who cares?).
