I have a JDM 4age bigport with the std ECU that I will be installing soon but I am missing the standard cams.

Instead of getting another pair of std bigport cams I was wondering what else I can put there instead to run with the std head and ECU.

The 1056a profile from wade cams seems OK but they seem to use a different measuring system so I'm not sure.

Also from crowcams I noticed that the 271215 272215 look good but what about the second ones on their list.

If any of you guys have used these cams could you please help me out a bit? How were they, how much did they cost, etc

Also I *might* be needing replacement valve springs so where can I get some cheap?

    Cheers

pretty sure the wade's are re grind.. youll need to supply some old cams, and have them re ground. same for crow. they might be able to source some for you, or do new billets, but it will make the pricing difference from these locally made ones to new japanese ones seem inconsequential.

alot of engine builders will tell you spend as much as you can on cams, it will make the difference. having said that, even the smallest offerings from even the local companys will make a noticeable difference you will appreciate.

but to answer your questions, best just to call them, and ask how their offerings compare to cams from japanese manufacturers with an "advertised" duration of 256 or 264 with 8mm lift, which is what you wanna stick around with stock management.

My wade cams were done on new blanks, but that was years ago.

There is heaps of info on here about cams and standard ecu's. You might need to think a bit more about search terms.

But, bear in mind the maximum duration you can feasibly run on a standard bigport ECU is 270 degrees, and that is according to Wade's, after development work they did for Toyota back in the 80's.

Just got this reply from wade:
We do have new castings for your 4AG. The cost to supply new billets to any profile is $520.00 inc gst.
Our 872A will run with the std ecu. The #1465A is the next biggest profile that will run with standard shim over buckets.

I have the 872A's and the price doesn't seem to have changed in about 15 years. Duration is 268 degrees.

Of course you also need to think about lift. I rum 8mm with standard shim over buckets and standard valve springs without any issues. If you want more then you need to start upgrading springs and probably thinking of the Yaris buckets.

How much power gain is to be had with say 270 inlet and exhaust, 7.5 mm lift? i'm guesing this would be the maximum you could run with the standard ecu and standard shims?

I was thinking bout getting cams that i could run with the standard ecu but a local cam place said its not worth it without an aftermarket ecu. The power gains would be to small.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (eightsixboy @ May 29 2008, 12:44 PM) </div>No idea. Not dynoed as other than varying cam timing, there is little to gain from dyno time other than doing a power run. However I am gradually making a few changes (slightle larger injectors and a piggyback Fuel computer) and will then do so.

The "problem" is that it moves your power band higher and you rapidly hit the rev limiter when the power comes in (that's with a 4.3cwp).

wow, i'm surprised that you hit the limiter fast with 4.3, i have 4.1 and was plannig on going 4.778. Maybe i should hold of on that till i've done my engine work and see whats its like with 4.1.
