run your car with the radiator cap off. If bubles come out its blown
cheers
thanks mate
i wouldn't just trust that..
when u start ur car in the morning, if it sounds like its running on three cylinders thats a fair indication. it will feel like its running rough...but when you rev the car the whole thing will rumble and rev up pretty slow...but if you know any mobile mechanics, itd b handy to get it pressure tested just to muke sure.
ive just had to do mine recently when i noticed the temp going up a little...
get onto it early to reduce the risk of further damage.
i don't know HEAPS mechanically, but ive had to go thru the process and watch it within the last 3 wks, so yeah..don't take my words like religion, coz others know a shitload more..but yeah, thats my 2 cents worth haha
check oil colour.
milky and or brown = blown
check under oil filler cap too.
also check radiator for oily residue around top with cap off.
also car will be running pretty darn hot once its gone.
is it using a bit of water/coolant recently?
you can also blow the gasket between 2 cylinders. this will not effect the coolant at all, but you will be down on compression on 2 cylinders.
do a compression test to be 100% sure of whats going on in the engine
Is there any sort of smoke coming out the exhaust?
If there is any steam coming out the exhaust, that means you have a blown coolant passage to combustion chamber.
If there is grey smoke (NOT black) coming out the exhaust, that means you have a blown oil journal to combustion chamber.
If your coolant looks brownish (not talking about electrolisis...That's rust), then you have a blown oil journal to water jacket.
Not to mention, you could have either oil or water blowing out the side of the headgasket--so clean your motor and look there, too.
OR, you could just have a combustion chamber to exterior blown gasket, or a combustion chamber to combustion chamber blow (as Slide 86 just mentioned before me) in which case, you will have bad compression--so run a compression test on all cylinders as well (with ALL the sparkplugs removed).
What are the symptoms of your car, anyways? That'll go a long way towards helping you. :2thumbs:
thats guys for all the feed back
to answer your questions
sLy1300, is it using a bit of water/coolant recently?
yeah it has i check it the other day just before i went 4 a drive and it was pretty low on coolant so i changed it yesterday and the water is brown and there was a bit of milky shit around the top and around the cap.
slide86, do a compression test to be 100% sure of whats going on in the engine
yeah i will go down 2 some one here me 2moz and get 1 done and let u guyz no what it does.
Nox, Is there any sort of smoke coming out the exhaust?
just went out and checked the colour just then and there's no colour 2 the smoke that is coming out, if theres any colour 2 it its more likey white.
i'll take the car down and get a compression test done 2moz so i can see what the hell is going on with my engine
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (bams_keto @ Jun 6 2008, 05:13 PM) </div>From what you're saying, I'd say that yeah, you do have a blown headgasket. Sounds like it may be through two places...Did it recently overheat? When did this start?
