brakes

hey guy's
i recently replaced some wheel bearings and rear brake shoe but found that one of the little slave cylinders i think its called ( in the rear drum that pushes the shoes apart) had sezied up, i got brand newies to replace them but ever since i have had a really weird feel on the brake, driving around normal the brake is kinda spongey and will go down to the floor but when the revs are high, ie going down a hill in 3rd or whatever, if i push on the brake, release and push down again the brake pedal will get harder and harder, then it will go soft again. can anyone tell me what this could be? air in the lines? brake master given up the ghost? any help would be great.

ps. i did bleed the system with one of those bottle looking things that the mechanics have that use air pressure whatever it is and also bleed manually with a mate

suggest re-bleeding all 4 lines but have a look for any leaks first. There is air in there somewhere...

if you have already bled the whole system properly as you said, sounds like the master is fucked as you said
if the master is mega old, and you allow the pedal to go all the way to the floor whilst bleeding you can easily damage the seals within the master because they are running across an unfamiliar wear area

whilst the revs are high, the booster brake assist is at a maximum making things super spongy

is your handbrake adjusted properly?

Hey mate,

Do what everyone else said.

But if ur handbrake keeps coming out of adjustment as well, then i suggest that u may have put ur brake setup around the wrong way or u haven't done it properly. Just double check it.

I had same problem with my E series. When i took it to the shop for a tune, i got the boys there to look at it, i simply mixed something up and my brakes where all good again.

^+1 for making sure everything is correct.

Make sure to bleed your brakes rear left - rear right - front left - front right. from farthest to closest to the master.

If it didn't happen before and it's happening now, then you've done something wrong. It does sound like it all just needs to be bled up properly though.

but in the vacuume line to your booster there is a one-way valve.

you didnt change that or much around with it did you?

sounds like something is amiss with either your bleeding, or possibly your vacumme helper, or maybe its just a broken component as stated up above by someone.

i would suggest getting a brand new vacumm pipe and one-way valve (cheap as), and putting it on your car. that will clear it up, and most likely give you a better feel over all.

i think this is a good bit of maintainence for us all to do to our cars, those vac lines don't take much to become brittle-get an air leak
