anyone have an idea of how much the stock rear tray weighs?
the thing that sits up held by the hatch and just covers the under compartment gives a flat look through rear window
    thanks.

Its about 1.5Kgs in weight, its like a cardboard made out of chipboard. Which, after 25 years is pretty flimsy and useless.

don't bother with speakers... put a nice pair of 4' ones in the plastic section above the rear suspension towers...

trying to cut a 25yr old piece of chipboard aint gonnna work!

It doesn't, if you want 6x9s build a new parcel tray. I got a modular built with the same rails, so if I want to take it out, its just one plug to disconnect the speakers and pull the tray out. 25 year old chipboard sucks bad.

my first ae86 had the original one with 6x9's cut into it. worked fine. just gotta be slow when making the cuts, a stanley knife is better than a saw to use for this.
