found torques for my 16v, the conrod nuts says..

    Stage 1: 39nm/29ft lb

    Stage 2: +90 degrees

so i torqued the conrod nuts down to 39nm/29ft lb then set out to do the +90 degrees...moved bout 5 degrees and that was as tight as it would go..?

    cheers chuckY

Get a half inch drive socket and breaker bar. 39Nm to start is not that tight, you must be too light on the wrench to get the additional 90deg.

I hope you got the torque settings from a reputable source.

The Toyota manual says 49Nm and the Autodata book says 45-50Nm for conrod bolts

Oil MUST be on the thread and under the head of the bolt.

What model rods are they? I should be able to find out from the ACL book by tonight some time the proper torque.

Just get arp Bolts, I know they are 47 ft/lbs, and I'll resize 'em to suit.

    Deal?
