get the loom from a ae82 or ae86 and do it that way
how many wires are on the AFM? there are only three on the map sensor
I am currently running a bigport 4age from a AW11 MR2. This model utilises a AFM.
I would like to convert it to a MAP sensor to gain more room in the engine bay.
Is it possible to plug a MAP sensor computer (say from a RWD JDM AE86, or an ADM AE82) into my current loom and splice the AFM plug into a MAP sensor?
Is there anything I should be wary of in doing this, ie different pin outs in the ECU?
Any help would be much appreciated.

yeah i had considered switching loom and computer, however i think i would need to change a lot of other things like injectors. Correct me if I'm wrong.
My initial thinking was that the computers might be a straight swap and then spice the AFM wires into a MAP sensor.
Full loom and ecu swap would be the easiest. You'll need to change the distributor as well, the triggering is totally different between the two.
Thanks for the advice Ant.
On second thoughts things seems a shit load easier accepting the block of metal in my engine bay known as a Air Flow Meter.
proberly a supid question, but i will ask anyway...
to take out an AFM engine and fit something such as a blacktop 20v (map) can u swap the engines and change the ECU, or there is more to it ??
sorry if this is dumb question, but i really have NO idea about electrics etc..
also, same question, but inplace of the 20v blacktop, using a 20v silvertop (AFM)... so to change a bigport with a AFM to a 20v with AFM, would it just be change engine and ECU ? like that simple ?
this would only work properly for a 20v blacktop engine management system on a 20v silvertop, theres the possiblity of dodging it to make the backtop managemtn also work for a 16V with quads however the outcome would be unpredctable.
To do the 20v silver to black conversion the complete ecu and wiring harness would need to be used. It is possible to convert the silvertop wiring harnass over but by the time you have all the extra bits and for all the work it would take it normally would never be worth it.
Also a few reports from people doing this swap have said theres no direct power gain to be had power wise. If open trumpets where run it might be a different story though. Considering how restrictive looking the silvertop afm meter is and how many other changes where made in the blacktop for shit all power gain I do wonder if the ecu has a more conservative tune overall.

so basically to go from a AFM bigport to a 20v (map or afm) you have to change the loom it seems ??
to simplify things.. yes,
oh also sorry I forgot about the fact that 16V engines come with the option of map or an airflow meter, I dont know what the story is there.
