Hey all. i used to have sprinters years ago... had 3 of them in fact, Got a lot of love for the toyota's but i went down the nissan path and got into drift. Currently have a pretty worked R32 4 door with RB25, 280 rwkw and a host of other goodies. Vids of that if your interested can be seen While i had the 32 i had a daily AE92 which i had for 3 years... it had a huge amount of kms on it, dents in every panel and in general looked like shit but it was the most reliable daily i ever had... til one day some bitch with NO licence, lost control of her car and wrote mine off.

So i bought a KE70... always wanted another rwd cheap toyota but didnt want to fork out ae86 money to get one again. I bought a KE off some guy on this forum who will remain unnamed... i kinda needed a car asap so i think i over paid a bit to get a car straight away... anyway i picked up this KE from way down south of SA... when i saw it it was slammed, cut springs and a locker... Fun drive home i thought. Anyway drove the car home (i live near Mt Barker in the hills) so i wenmt the back way... the car was just about out of control everywhere... bouncing around and under/oversteering with every bump... something not right there! i finally made it home, jacked the car up and found that both rear shock's had snapped their bottom mounts off the diff. great!

fixed that, puit stock susp in it and drove it to work the next day... all seemed to be ok and then it started over heating... kept putting water in it over the next week and it kept getting worse... what do ya know. the HG was blown. bloody POS. seems i got a bit ripped off.

nevertheless. i decided to put a better motor in it, was weighing up between a 4age package or a SR20... shopped around a bit and found that 4age packages with motor, box loom and the bits i needed was going to total 1800 ish. where as i bought an S14 VVT SR20de auto front cut for 1K, sold some shit off the cut, bought a rb20 box and a SR bellhousing and got a clutch and the stuff i needed to make it fit. all for a total of 1200 bucks.

i modded the s14 crossmember to fit the KE, got that in and from there on the motor fitted with ease... its pretty low and far back in the engine bay however it fits and works. got a custom T shaft made to suit the RB box and bolted that all in, wired it all up, got the tacho working easy as pie just by running the KE tacho sig to the neg wire on the SR coil on the dizzy (you can't do this with a SR20DET)

turns out the motor i bought has 2 seised injectors... so it doesnt run too well... going to sort that out quite soon but otherwise.. its nearly finished. The whole aim of this car was a reliable daily driver in which i can still have a bit of fun in, is economicalish (the 4K CHEWED through fuel for the piss poor power it made) i reckon the De will still go pretty hard... the S14VVT DE makes 185hp or something like that, more then 99% of the NA 4ages on this forum!

    Pics to come soon!

    UPDATE: 22/7/08

3 problems have been preventing progress for me lately and due to not having much free time its taking time to get it sorted.. those probs are injectors, tie rods and steering knuckle (rack to column) I got the injectors out and two are dead... so getting some tomorrow, wasnt as hard as i thought it was an i had them out in 30 mins. Splitting the intake plenum makes life easy, also oif i ever need to change the clutch master, the plenum has to come off, lucky i know how to now tongue.gif

last two issues are to do with the fact i put the S chassis crossmember in, since I'm running the S14 rack, the knuckle where it joins to the column is a different size with the s14 one being a larger diameter and the KE smaller... i wanted to combind the two to make one end a small and the other end a large diameter, but various engineering shops i went too didnt want to do the job... Left me scratching my head for a while, i was half tempted to weld the larger Diameter one onto the KE shaft... but thats dodgy i was at JPI today and i was looking for tie rods for the other issue i have, when i stumbled across a R34 GTST rack which had a knuckle on it and i noticed that the column end was smaller the the rack end of the uni.... took it off, got a pair of verniers and what do you know... the smaller end is EXACTALY the same as the KE70 steering shaft and the rack end is same as s14. win!

next prob was tie rods... the s14 rack and rods is much wider then the KE is... with the tie rods wound as short as possible the front end alignment is still WAAAAY out like / \

so i needed to find a tie rod that will screw into the nissan rack, but but much shorter, did some looking around and nothing seems to come up as a solution, i didnt want to cut and shut them, being a steering component and all... its just a rough way about it. so i took the two tie rods to an engineering shop and asked them to cut the threaded section where rod ends go on, the entire length of the tie rods... so should allow for more adjustment!

scored a perfect radiator for the project too... its a JZX70 rad, outlets are same as SR, its a tripple core, and its much shorter then s13, but wider, so it will let me shut the bonnet!

Much thanks to JPI for the parts and the help! Highly recommend them!

    UPDATE 27/7/2008

    Now with pics

Might fit these... would need a bit of work but no reason why they couldnt be made to fit i guess.

    UPDATE 7/9/08

Been driving the car for ages now... no probs what so ever and its great fun to drive, Have slowly been upgrading it and its turning into more of a project as i go, i now have a work van so no need for a car, rego ran out and i think i'll do some work on the car to get it set up and i might do some motokana's or drift prac days in it... got a lot of potential

I bought some TRD blue rear shocks for it, along with some 4.5 kg rear springs. which brings the ride height down to a nice height now... the diff was then hitting the exhaust so i got that bit remade since the last joint did such a bad job of it lol.

also in the process of going to S13 front susp, since i have the S14 rack and crossmember, it doesnt work to well currently with the toyota set up so I'm going to go nissan all round. In theory it should work quite well, better then just s13 stuff on a AE/KE rack/crossmember.

Used stock s13 struts as a starting point, cut the spring bases off and i'll use the body's to house my shock and spring platform combo... while i have some spare ae86 struts in the shed i'll cut the top section off to use the gland nut and threaded bits from that. I am using a AE92 TRD blue shock, which is shorter then the ae86 strut body by 60mm, and longer then thge s13 body by quite a bit. heres a pic showing the side by side comparo...

heres a dummy shot of what it should look like once ive welded it on (tomorrows job)

Gonna put these on the front too... nice and sticky rubber

Pic of how the engine bay is atm... ive still got some more work to do like paint the intake pipe, and clean the intake plenumn up,

i love the sound of this! After all the money I spent on my 4age (which is almost in) I'm wondering if this may have been a better path...only issue I had with it was that running a motor from a different manufacturer stiffs me with the local hill climb rules, so I end up racing against sport sedans.....

Very interested to see how this pans out, your cars have always looked great so I'm looking forward to this one!

well the headfucks associated with fitting the SR have put me off a bit... the 4age would have been the better path to go down. however having owned 3 sprinters and 4age's of various mods (16V stock, 16V 190hp off its nut, and 20V stock but 92 rwkw and then turboed with 150 rwkw) i thought i'd give something different a go.

    you work fast man,

what other headfucks did you have with getting the motor in, from that short write up it sounded pretty simple,

were you the unlucky person who had the chick hit you after her biyfrien pulled the handbrake up cause they were fighting?

have you got that starting issue sorted you were having?

yeah that was me man, i can't get any cash out of those fuckers either.. bloody lowlives don't want to accept responsibility for their actions and say they have no money cause they don't have a job/dole etc...

1JZ: nah not yet mate, will be fitting some new shocks and springs to those struts before i chuck them in, and need some steering arms also.

grape: by modding you mean using a big hammer then yes seriously tho there is only one area where it comes close to touching so i just massaged that back a bi and its all good.
