can't get onto youtube at work, but maybe check your intercooler piping??
I finally got my 4agte back on the road yesterday after 3months in the garage, drove it around all day and it ran sweet, then took it out last night and gave it a hammering, all was good. Started it thismorning and drove to uni and it was fucked, idles rough, but seemed to drive ok under 3000rpm. Anything above that and it would build a little bit of boost, but wouldn't accelerate and wouldn't rev, just make a growling sort of noise, if I held the pedal flat it would kinda surge along picking up fractionally every couple of seconds then dying in the arse again.
Also it does this weird thing when free revving it, if I back off and straight away hit it again, it makes a noise like sidedraught carbs sucking air (from the turbo) and takes a second or two before revs rise. I have attached a video of this, take note of what I'm doing with the throttle as it revs.
I initially pulled plug leads off one by one and identified a dud plug, pulled it out and sure enough it was fouled, I put plugs back in in the reverse order and it was the same plug not firing (ie not coil/lead problem). So I went and bought new plugs and put them in, same problem
compression is 160psi in all 4. It just seems strange to me that it suddenly started for no apparant reason. The only change was a squirt of octane booster thismorning, which has never caused a problem before...
ideas?

Stale fuel? was it tuned to run a specific ron of fuel?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (lowau @ Jul 31 2008, 12:22 PM) </div>Fuel was not stale yesterday, I would hope it doesnt go stale overnight. It was tuned on 98, 98+ a dash of octane booster is what's in it, and I've run it on this before with no issues.
Check all your hoses, maybe a vac line somewhere?
sounds like a intercooler leak somewhere.. Do you have a boost gauge ?? check your engines vaccum
Hahahaha. This is pretty much the same as my problem. Check your all you ic piping joints with some soapy water in a squirty bottle while the engine is running. If you have a vacuum leak somewhere it will bubble up. This is most likely your problem
it sounds like you have no fuel pressure.
infact it sounds exactly like you have no fuel pressure. my bluebird with ca18det does that exact thing when it gets an air lock in the fuel line.
take the fuel line off and put it in a bottle, see how much fuel comes out. or just a heap of air.
my fuel pump shit its self after i left it for 2 months. maybe yours has done the same.
sounds like much more than just a vacumn leak....its not even attempting to rev in the video = no fuel
hmm I can see how IC piping leak would affect an AFM car, but MAP too?
Hoping maybe blocked fuel filter? Will check tomorrow and report back. Any more things for me to check, post 'em up![]()
i had the exact same symptoms when i put my 4agte back together. i tried everything, it turned out to be that id left the map sensor line off, so it would run ok untill it made boost and then backfire and splutter. plugged it back in and car run sweet.
