Sounds like you have RA40 axles in there. I believe they will need further shaving when the lsd goes in because the factory lsd axles are slightly shorter than the open wheeler axles. I could be wrong though so feel free to correct me
I got a t-series which was from what i was told a t-18, and the diff centre was from a ra40. I installed new bearings on the axles, and when i went to bolt the r/h axle in it would seize the bearing, i tried the other axle and the same deal. Both axles had been shaved already.
After trying a few things, including putting in another 4.11 geared centre from a ra28, i evenually found out that the axle was bottoming out on the splines in the diff centre ie; the axle was going in to far and the splines wernt long enough.
So i cut a little ridge were the splines finish and all is good. I only had this drama on the r/h/s, the left axle is longer and doesnt seize.
So brings me to my first question, are the right and left axles meant to be a different length?
Could i have the wrong axles? Maybe i have axles from a celica that has a longer wheel base?
I would like to get down to the bottom of this before i put my new lsd and gearing in, so any imput is much appreciated :2thumbs:
Cheers.

pretty sure you are wrong about that. its only earlier versions of of the lsd centres and factory types that require a shorter axle on one side.

Write this down.
There were 9 different factory axles made for the AE86, as listed:
#1. early drum brake
#2. early drum brake with LSD
#3. early disk brake
#4. early disk brake with LSD
#5. AE85, AE86 SR spec, S series, drum brakes
#6. late drum brake
#7. late drum brake with LSD
#8. late disk brake
#9. late disk brake with LSD
The same axles are used for left or right.
The axles for LSD are slightly shorter to suit the Toyota LSD.
All early axles, disks, and LSD are common to the TE71/TE72 models with T series diff.
Late model axles have a different spline to the early ones, but bearings are the same.
Disk brake axles use a double row bearing.
The length of the axle (made for LSD or not) is not critical when you use a aftermarket LSD, such as TRD.
The axle housing between early and late model is identical.
But the question of eightsixboy, relates to axles out of another car that where too long and ground shorter to fit AE86 or similar.
But thats the thing, it wasnt that they were too long, just the the splines were to short. See my fully sick diagram.
Doesnt make any sense, cause if i have a t series from a t-18 than axles from a ra40 shouldnt be a problem in a non lsd centre. I am gonna measue the diff up tomorow, should be 1410 mm from one drum backing plate to the other drum backing plate?
I can't have a t series from anything other than a t-18 or ae86 casue the trailing arms wouldn't line up for shit, i'm thinking maybe just wrong axles or maybe even wrong bearings? but i checked the bearings with my verniers when i put new on new bearings and they were he same, but i was in a rush so anythings possible lol. Funny thing is that when i got the bearings from bursons they were the same as local corolla bearings, not the ones listed for a ae86.
Does anyone know the bearing size of an s series axle, was thinking i might have s series axles? someone said there the same splines as a zenki axle?
