hey guys don't knowhow to put this but i am puttin an sr20de into a ke7 corolla that is un registered. so i want the engine numbers to all match up so i gues i need an engineers cert. Can you jut get the engine conversion engineered or do you have to get the whole car engineered, suspension mods and everything?
    Cheers

Hey mate, I think from memory there is a cut off to the engine size you can install into a car before it requires engineering, and I am pretty sure an sr20 in a ke70 or ae71 would be over that limit.

You would probably find that to engineer the car with that conversion you would need to upgrade the brakes and possibly some other items as well. I'm pretty sure you could just get the conversion and the required upgrades engineered and leave the rest to chance, but if you are going to that much trouble and expoense i would suggest going the whole hog and doing it properly.

And an engineer certificate doesn't mean you won't get defected either....

It can be engineered, i have it done in mine. Also, an engineers cert means that you wont get defected for anything addressed on the engineered cert. Brakes is a good idea to upgrade but prolly not required depending on what engineer u use.

as of 29/8/08 the formula is: for turbo 2.5 x the cars weight = max engine capacity in cc's
for N/A 3.0 x the cars weight = max engine capacity in cc's

*cars weight is in kgs as written on the rego papers

there is different formula for heavier cars and full chassis cars but this is the formula for lighter than 1100kg cars is as above.

for putting in alternative engines, unless it was a factory option (5l into a v6 commodore) or from the same engine family (4M to 5M, 5M to 7M) then it has 2 be engineered

^ Prettttty sure you need brakes. People shouldn't do stuff half arsed if they are going to the extent of putting an SR in.

If you go the whole S13 style front end i doubt very much that it will be able 2 b engineered in NSW, It will probably alter track more than 25mm (i think this is the allowable limit, its either this or less) which is illegal.

Also, it should pass with stock brakes, he's only putting in an SR20DE, virtually the same torque and power output as a 4AGZE, not like its a massive amount of power.

Just ring an engineer and find out, goto the street machine magazine website, they have a list of all the registered engineers in each state.
