    Hey guys,

I'd be really grateful if ye could answer a few questions that I have

On a JDM car that had the air con / installed but removed - is it hard to install again? Generally how much would all the parts come to if they had to be bought and how much time would it take to reinstall the system again?

Is it hard to reinstall a power steering system again if it was removed?

How much would a drive in / drive out 4AGZE conversion cost on a JDM AE86? Do many companies specialise in these conversions?

    Thanks,

    Gus

don't know about aircon and i don't know about prices, but with a gze, piping needs to be made up for the intercooler, outlet pipe for the charger needs to be modified/custom, loom needs to be tinkered with, depending on which gze i beleive, clutch, spigot, gze are a very hot running engine so you probably will want to get an alloy rad and some thermofans, with an oil cooler, then think about the fuel system, i don't know if the stock ae86 fuel pump will feed the gze what it requires and you would probably count consumables like oil, coolant, labour cost would be a killer

i have seen a picture in the 4AGZE discussion of an gze retaining the factory air con and powersteering in a rwd ke, beleive to be a motorfix car. it is possible

best bet would be to speak to a mechanic that you plan to pay to do the conversion and get their opinion on costs and such

Thanks. I'm trying to get a rough idea from people who have gone through with the conversion already though, as many mechanics might not have a full idea of the work involved. It's not unknown for people to get a call from their mechanic only to be told it'll cost another 1k to finish the job or that there are certain aspects that the mechanic can't finish as he may not have the knowhow or experience.

    Anyone have any ideas?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Gussy @ Sep 3 2008, 09:00 PM) </div>I've spent an age now collecting up the parts for air con and powersteering on 4AGE in an AE71 (which is essentially the same deal as on an AE86).

Now basically, if you engine has nothing remaining of aircon system you'll need a JDM aircon bracket (there are 2 different types depending on if you want to run power steering or not), JDM aircon compressor, JDM 4AGE harmonic balancer (but I'm guessing your engine still has one on it). All the other parts you can source from an ADM sprinter, including lines, condensor and evaporator (although this is probably still there).

With power steering, you will need a JDM power steering pump bracket, A JDM power steering pump, JDM lines, rack and engine crossmember (if they've swapped a manual crossmember into the car). Its possible to put a manual rack on a power steering engine crossmember, but not the other way around. You will also need a different steering column intermediate shaft (I think that's what its called) and a power steering column yoke to go with that). The hardest part about putting it back in would be changing the crossmember if its now got a manual crossmember in it, but that's as easy as unbolting the mounts, lifting the motor up a little off the member, dropping it out underneath then swapping the power steering one back on.

It took me about 4 months to round all this stuff up and cost me about $600-700, You could get it quicker if you paid more for it.

Now its most certainly possible to put in a GZE and have aircon and power steering functioning, I've got a mate who does. You'll need custom lines made up for the aircon, and you'll need to use the original GZE bracketry and compressor for aircon. Likewise you'll need to get the JDM power steering lines modded to attach to the GZE pump.

I would be budgeting AT LEAST $5000 for a complete drive in drive out, including getting the power steering an aircon going, probably even more. It all depends on how cheaply you can source the engine and other required parts.
