Firstly, before the flaming begins, I have used the search function. However I am looking for a little more detail than just, "Sierra rear shocks with cut Ford springs".

I just bought a 85 RT142 Avante 2.4L W55 (live axle rear) and apart from the bumpers which are body coloured (soon to be attacked with some cans of satin black) and the bumpers being slightly larger than the standard model ones, it's a good car which cost me $1550, however has surface rust equivalent to the size of a 50cent piece in the boot and no rust at all on the body, it also has no dents.

Eventually I want it to be a weekend slider (early next year, so please don't recommend a locker because funnily enough, thats the first thing that comes to mind when I think of a sliding 'rona).

With that in mind, I need some educated opinions on what spring/shock combos for front and rear would be good. I know Commodore VB - VR (ish?) front springs fit, but what shocks fit into the RT142 struts? I also need advice for the rear end.

Also, I would like to keep the cost down to about $600 - 700 (springs/shocks, ignore LCA's etc for the moment) and I don't particularly want to cut springs, and I want it to be a close to legal height. Not like my old car which was 28mm too low.

So essentially, what is a good combination of front and rear spring/shocks and what spring heights (EXAMPLE: Commy king springs superlows? legal in Corona because the weight of the car wont compress them as much?(I don't plan on using king's but will if I have to)) etc.

    Thanks.

P.S $500 for a set of 8kg front, 6kg rears through AJPS is a bit too expensive.

fairly sure commo sshocks will fit aswell. go to bursons and compare rona shocks to commo ones in there catalogue

pm keiichi and he can tell you how to set it up. get sigma lca's with press in ball joint.

i too have an rt142 and i have VL commo kingys in the front (uncaptive and un-cut but ok) and VN wagon rear kingys in the rear (you have to cut a few coils off cause it sits pretty high)

it cost me only $50 for the set and my car is stil legal height (if not a little too high still)

if you want shorter shocks at the front then use st185 celica gt-four inserts and at the back use BOGE peugeot 505 rear shocks (i think they are the correct length??)

    edit:here's mine

that things mad dude, about the height i want it to. i dont want it to be slammed cause eventually its gonna have a locker and stiff + inconspicuous = win (IMO)

mines an extremely similar colour aswell, those fronts are 15's yeah? how much guard work did you need to do to make them fit?

yeah 15x8 +0 offsett with 205/50 tyres, it only needed a slight taping of the inner lip to clear too (rona's have big gaurds)

15x8 +0 - +5 195/50 were the wheels i was hoping for. fill em nicely hey.

are your front springs kings superlow? and what wagon kings are the rears? and how many coils did you lop off.

i feel much better about cutting rears although it will be a bitch cause my mechanic refuses to service my car for free (well free labour) when it has cut springs in it. he threatened to call the cops on me when i took my vn with a rear eyebrow height of 270mm in ^_^'

when i got the front springs out of the strut i didnt even have to compress them so i guess they are lows?
the rears are out of a VN, i cut around 3 coils off? the funny thing is the top of the spring doesnt actually touch the original spring seat cause its a smaller diameter so it just wedges about 3/4 the way up the metal cone thing :greenbounce: (it actually makes it safer cause the spring wont fall out)

alright, im gonna get myself a second pair of front struts so i can keep the standard ones for when the inevitable defect comes. Ill try and get some VL kings lows for the front and some second hand 86 KYB's or something.

ill probably try and get some VN wagon kings lows for the rear and see how that turns out and then chop off whatevers necessary, then i can eventually get some springs made with a similar free height to the choppies to make it semi legal again. rears are a 10 min job to change so that doesnt phase me.

did the front springs fit into the completely standard front strut? RT142 top hat and all? or did some of that stuff have to be changed?

what are the spring diameteres are you looking for?

i have both front commodore and rear VL springs that you could use, they are really low, and uncut..

    just so you know

all commodore front springs are the same diameter(not sure about VE)

and all live axel (non-irs) springs are the same to my knowledge..

    hope that helps
