ANYONE???
hey guys.
i just bought my self a t series kouki big axle diff with TRD 2 way center.
before i go ahead and bung her up in my car, i wanna do some mods.
1. what do you reckon i should look at doing 1st up???
2. need size of rear discs?
3. size of rear brake lines?
any info is highly regarded and appreciated.
thanks.
John.
ANYONE???
Clean it up, rebuild calipers if needed, check pads and disks, put in car.
You shouldn't really have to mod it unless you're running a very heavy sprinter with massive front brakes and see lots of repetative braking from high speed. Alternatively, you can get someone to make a set of brakets and bolt up a larger set of brakes. In this case, let me know and I'll buy your brakes and brackets off you.![]()
ha ha ha.
nothing to extreme. i was thinking of installing some braided rear brake lines, and possibly try and get my hands on some larger diameter discs.
Get your brake bias and hand brake cable/tension working properly first. New brake lines to replace your ones if they are shagged. Proper oiling.
See how it goes.
Otherwise if its noisy, it may need to come out for a blacklash and preload setting.
I agree with choom78 - if you've gone from drum rear change bias valve and adjust handbrake, should be better.
If need freshen it up new lines, discs and pads. Zenki and Kouki have the same size rotors (231x10mm) and pads etc.
Only difference is the style of the caliper (kouki flips open to change pads - zenki need to knock out slides/shims)
You can get larger diameter disks that will bolt up, but you will need the backing plate and possibly caliper as well. Their from a MA45 are are 10" diameter. Unfortunately we didn't seem to get them here, but you might be lucky enough to find one in NZ. I've seen a couple of complete diffs floating around there, but havn't found the brakes on their own yet.

Seeing you have a TRD 2 way and its a direct bolt in, just go ahead and bolt it in, unless you want to change the ratio? Maybe a degrease and fresh coat of paint?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (johnk84 @ Sep 9 2008, 09:26 PM) </div>..bolt it into the car!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (johnk84 @ Sep 9 2008, 09:26 PM) </div>Unless your getting custom stuff made up, just buy direct replacement rotors and brake lines - no need to know the size, the brake lines generally come in kits and there should be 3 of them for the diff. You could rebuild calipers, replace bearings and seals, fresh oil etc but this isnt really modding, just maintenance and can be done with the diff on the car.
Slap it in and see how it goes then decide what you need to do - no use spending money just for the sake of 'modding' something!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (johnk84 @ Sep 9 2008, 07:26 PM) </div>If you want bigger disc you can do like I did and buy adapters to fit a 259mm silvia rotors. But I don't think you need it unless you have big brakes at the front.
where do you go about getting these brake line kits from????
