    Question

hey all i have a ADM AE86 with a smallport with a fresh rebuild and i thought it would slide better. i have come to the conclusion that it is maybe my shitter diff ratio in my s series peice of. what are they 3.9 or something. what would be a good ratio to run with a smallport engine? cuz the current diff barly spins second. and is giving me the shits...

they are hard work to get right, i'd look at track time over mods

4.1 up to 4.7 will help but not as much as i think you are hoping

going off my old s13 my change from 4.1 to a 4.3 ratio diff was about a 500rpm increase to maintain the same speed with a 4.1. If that 500rpm gets you into your power band better then it might make it a little easier. other things might be lighten the fly wheel or change to less grip tyres on the rear. Apart from that i'd be more inclined to look at driving techniques to compensate rather then more mods. Ie. clutch kicking, better/smoother weight shifting and reducing counter steer so you dont waste so much momentum.
