Default ADM Body JDM bits Engineering help NSW

    Car -

    motor - 4age

    use -Daily driver

    problem - not Engineered

occurs/started when - I run out of rego in September........ need 4age engineered into ADM shell

    personal situation (if applicable)

    Hi

I live in Sydney East, working in North Sydney

Ive looked at the threads on Engineering and found bits and pieces basically people saying they got everthing engineered for under 500 bucks.. So I ring eight of the Engineers on the RTA website that were closest.

Four dont do that work anymore, too much hassel. Other four say it could be grand to 10k? one also tells me to send a letter to the transport minster, because he agreed that my car comes out in japan the same way it is now setup but with a ADM shell, only difference!

Anyone give me the number of a engineer that has recently engineered a sprinter for a reasonable price?

    Thanks

    Hi mate,
I just got my ADM AE86 engineered here in WA, cost me 500,- which is the going rate i think and is what you pay if the engineer only has to examine the car once.
Here in WA we have to send in a modification application form to the transport department first in which you state the modifications you're planning to do to the car. Transport department has a look at it and gives you an approval, an approval with remarks on what you can't do or have to change or they'll tell you you can't do the mod's you plan on doing. If they approve you get an engineer to check the car if all the modifications are done properly. For example for your car with placing a different/faster engine if the mounting is done properly, if the brakes are good enough, if the speedo is correct, if the exhaust isn't to noisy etc...

After he agrees he makes up an engineerings report and sends it of to the transport department who again have to approve before you can take the vehicle over the pits and can rego it.
If he doesn't agree the first time and you have to make changes and he has to re-inspect the vehicle, yeah then the costs go up but 10k for a 4age seems a bit on the high side.

Now I don't know how it works in NSW and can't give you a number for a engineer in NSW but going on the info you've given I would say it's pretty straight forward to get the 4AGE engineered if everything is done properly and you won't have to spend thousands of dollars

NSW is a bit dumb in that aspect, there's such a wide range of quotes you get. I know a guy that does anything for $500~ (but thats near Byron bay, bit far for you) and then workshops charge $2000+ for the same things.

And they wonder why people dont bother engineering things.

Is that the only thing you need engineered?
There are a few guys you can try, but none are local to you .

Consulmotive @ peakhurst - he is really strict though, but charges fairly , pretty much if it's got a pod filter, to low, OR even if it doesn't have a reatrictor in the fuel filler neck ( for unleaded ) he won't pass it.

Or Autosport engineering at kirrawee, $600 - $800 from memory.

Technically the whole car should be engineered right down to the steering wheel and gear knob? I dont want to pay out my ass for my wheel n knob haha

any suggerstions on what I should get engineered? basically everything should be engineered as I said above but I was thinking motor, sus, diff and wheels? 145 an hr plus travel for old mate to come out and have a look, not too keen on getting things engineered that arnt necessary?

As fas as I know the engineer is supposed to examine everything you've changed that might be illegal and you could get yellow stickered for (I don't know if they do this in NSW as well?)
Also I don't think an engineer will sign of a car as beeing engineered when there are illegal parts on it at the time of the examination. Having that said I'm assuming it is not possible to have a car partially engineered...So either you engineer it completely with all the parts on it or you engineer it with only the parts on the car that you want to engineer and put the rest of the parts on the car after engineering.

In addition; Also think about what you have to have engineered for your insurance.
