    Default Xt130 struts into ae71??

    Hey guys,

Just wondering what parts i will need if i was to put xt130 struts into my ae71 and if this is a good option? and if by using the lower control arms i will still get some negative camber?

    Cheers

    Basic XT130 setup:
    - XT130 Struts
    - XT130 Hubs
    - XT130 Brakes
    - XT130 Steering Arms
    - AE71 strut tops.

    Optional Parts:
    - XT130 LCA (20mm O/A track increase and roughly -1º camber)
    - Hi-Lux/Peugeot brake upgrade.
    - AE86 power steering arms (More lock, but will cause rotor to foul on end of LCA. Can be solved with strategic use of a hammer)
    - AE86 camber adjustable strut tops.

    Process:
    - Disconnect brake lines from AE71 calipers.
    - Unbolt and remove entire AE71 strut assembly.
    - Remove AE71 steering arms from ball joint.
    - Assemble XT130 strut assembly using AE71 strut top.
    - Bolt XT130 steering arms to ball joint.
    - Insert new XT130 strut assembly.
    - Connect brake lines (Don't forget to bleed them afterwards)
    - Wind out tierods to suit longer XT130 steering arms.
    - Wheel alignment.
    - Done.

Obviously this is the basic run down. Replace LCA with Corona item if needed, and/or steering arms with AE86 ones for more lock. Also, would highly recommend shortening the strut and going coilovers if you choose this route. A mildly lowered car with the basic setup mentioned above will have little to no suspension travel and make for a shit handling car.

By coilovers I mean use the XT130 struts and convert them to coilovers. Ie. Grind off spring perches, cut strut tube down in length, and then weld on a sleeve kit.

Is it a decent setup? Well, goes without saying that the money you spend on it will be the biggest variable. Stock as a rock, the setup isn't that crash hot, but if you buy decent shocks with matched springs and have the correct suspension travel, it is fantastic. I run XT130 struts converted to coilovers with AGX shocks, 7kg/mm sprigs, Tein camber tops, AE86 steering arms and use the Corona 2 piston calipers. No complaints from me at all.

Just finished doing this conversion, blinded explained it really well. I'm using st185 shocks and lowered ae86 springs.
In hind site should of converted the strut to coil overs instead of using the 86 spring that doesn't fit well.
Also if you get the struts from an old car at the wreckers be prepared for the caliper to be seized, disc need machining and pads replaced.
In which case you may aswell save and get the hilux and Peugeot gear.

I highly recommend this conversion though, you get better brakes, neg camber from the lcas and more shock options
