Running open, enclosed or using filter socks??

So basically im after so opinions on whats the best way to go about it.

Currently im running open trumpets on my BT with a splash guard on as well.

Ive searched and basically from what ive read everyone has a different thought on it.

I have a box that fits around the trumpets but not sure if i should just use that or just buy some filter socks for it.
Also who sells filter socks in NSW.

Ive heard people say that filter socks disturb the air flow, are a fire hazard, bits could get sucked in, get to dirty and arnt that effective.
True?

But then others say its just as effective as a box and the above wouldnt happen.

Car is daily driven. And will be used on the track.


If anyone could share some light onto subject it would be very helpfull.

I did a few experiments with short ram tubes on my BT on the chassis dyno, best gains were in the standard airbox and not free air, below 3200rpm it picked up a solid 3kw above 5000rpm it picked up a solid 6kw! between 3200rpm and 5000rpm the curves were exactly the same.

lol... your questions indicated you were after the best performance.

thus an enclosed airbox seperating the hot air of the engine bay from the cool air of your intake and providing a good tank of air to draw from when you need it with good solid flow figures would be the only correct answer.

if you are after the right noise or look, in trumpet filter or socks... its all less effective performance wise, but may be what your looking for?

i ran filters with springs and one sock did get sucked in and the throttle ended up getting stuck at about 6000rpm.
long story short i managed to pull over and ripped all the socks off in anger and am currently not running socks for three reasons.

1) car is sitting in the garage most of the time
2) when i do take it out, i love the roar of the unfiltered throttles
3) cbf looking up where to buy new socks

with that said though, as long as you change your socks regularly/wash them and re-oil (like a dirtbike filter) they are fine to use and shouldbe used, especially on a daily IMO.
ultimately though, an airbox etc would be the best option

Im running trumpets with uni filters, sounds awesome but isn't really the ideal set up, want to make a box one day when i get enough spare time. I actually did notice a difference in performance from removing the standard airbox, definitely wasn't an increase in performance.
