Default Water pipes and heater core question...

    Hey all,

Couldnt find the answer I was looking for (but I am blond, so may have missed it lol).

What I am wanting to know is, can I plumb the water pipes direct from the engine straight into the heater core, then back out towards the radiator? Or does the heater core cause a blockage and wont allow the water to pump around the engine/radiator as it should and therefore overheat the engine?

Ie. After putting the 7AGE into my levin we werent sure if having the coolant pipes coming straight out of the engine block and into the heater core, then back into the radiator plumbing would cause a restriction then cause cooling issues.
We had thought about buying a "T" section and putting that into the pipes then it can just feed into the heater core without taking all the water and not causing a blockage (if thats what would happen), but its so cold here I want my heater now!!! lol.

    Hope im making sense....

    Cheers

I wouldn't run all my coolant through the heater core.

1 - The heater core connections are much smaller than the rest of the cooling system, so you'd severely limit flow, making it more likely to overheat.
2 - If you turned the heater control to cold then you'd stop all flow through your engine, overheating it.

Run a proper water setup, there are plenty of photos around of how things are setup stock, and how they can be modified. Have a bit of a dig and you will find something you can use.

Ahh true, good point, hadnt thought about the size of the pipes. Cheers.

Would it make a difference that I have removed the part that controls the hot/cold of the heater unit? I mean the old vacum box that would send the hot water from the engine into the heater core when you turned the dial to hot. I was just thinking of running the heater unit on hot all the time lol.

Cool cool, guess I cant get rungi on it and will have to do it the proper way hahah

    Thanx heaps
