It pains me to do it, but I've owned my Hilux now for 2 years and I haven't progressed enough on it in that time. Just with work commitments all my time has gone out the window.
Basically what you get is the following (with what I paid for each originally in brackets):
- 1 RN85 Hilux single cab with a tub complete undamaged (was in minor front ender when I bought it, had a new radiator support put on professionally) ($3000 including the repairs)
- 1 YN85 Hilux hit in the front, no tray at all. ($300)
- Most of a manual GZ20 soarer half cut which I got the engine from, I've sold off the bits which I didn't need (cluster, pedal box etc) everything is in boxes as I completely gutted the half cut. Had 100,333km's on it ($2000)
- 1 RZN149 W56 gearbox, currently installed in the RN85 with the 1G bellhousing everything mated up correctly. I chose this box over the W58 simply because the shorter first to gears in the W56 make it more suitable for towing. ($600)
- Heaps of parts from a VZN130 SR5 4runner including the much better cluster, full harness (already set up for EFI, infact the 3RD ecu plug looks to have the same pinout as the 1GGTE one = almost plug and play engine wiring), factory central locking, electric mirrors etc. ($300)
- 1 Complete genuine Toyota 1GGTE rebuild gasket kit ($500)
I've also tracked down and collected just about every little bit and piece which was broken on the ute, including an uncracked dash. So many things I couldn't list them, so much expense.
The RN85 has brand new tyres on each corner. There are so many more things I can't think of which I've bought too, the total expense would be somewhere up around the $8000 mark.
Anybody who knows me, knows that I'm a fussy bastard and was building this ute to perfection. I even went to the trouble of cutting out and welding in the RH battery tray of LN130 import Toyota surf just to get the battery neatly relocated to the other side of the engine bay. I've even got the special genuine heat shielded clutch master and brake masters to go on next to the turbos on the drivers side.
My build's aim was to make the install look completely factory, so I've gone to the trouble of getting all sorts of hard to find parts to achieve that.
This is what it looked like after the repairs
Before the repairs
Engine still in half cut
Other YN85, only photo I have at the moment sorry, tray is gone too.
There are heaps for photos here:
There isn't much more money to be spent, I've collected almost everything you need.
Still need to do the following:
- Sort out the fuel system
- Get radiator and intercooler
- Wire up engine
- Possibly remount engine, I was planning to because I wasn't happy with the engine position (too high, does JUST clear the bonnet though) but that will require at least a front sump to be sourced. Not entirely necessary, would be best to do so though as is very tight with the firewall too. It is however mounted up and bolted in at the moment.
The only other major part is you need to put everything back together. The interior is out as I gave it a wash out and cleaned everything. Panels are currently all off the front end for ease of working on the ute. Most of the bolts are packed away and marked, but you also have the benefit of the second ute to get bits from if you can't find anything.
I'm happy to let all this go for $4000, half what all of it has cost me. It just pains me to constantly see the thing sitting in my garage with no progression, I haven't worked on it for a whole year.
There is so much more to say, but I can't fit it all in here. If you're interested PM and we'll arrange a chat and maybe an inspection.
Everything is located in Wollongong NSW.
