budget thrasher? looks too good for that. real nice base to start with. if it were mine, i wouldnt change the paint at all. save the coin for suspension upgrades and get some track time
Hey guys, I thought I would make a thread to keep track of everything I do to the car.
This one popped up for sale at just the right time, as my last sprinter met an unfortunate demise. It only has a few minor mods, but still plenty to have fun with for now.
It has factory power steering and power mirrors, no name brand front and rear strut braces, a decent pod and a full stainless fujitsubo over diff exhaust.
I would be glad to hear people's opinions on which way to go with paint, i'm thinking something very similar to the cam covers would look pretty good but open to suggestions. Don't flame me for the wheels, apprentice mechanic wages make things a bit difficult.
A few pics of how it sits at the moment,![]()

stroked 2L ca18-ae86 in the build...eta xmas 2012?
It badly needs paint, just doesn't show in the photo's I guess. The whole car has been painted with aerosol cans and there's a couple of sections of bog that haven't been sanded down at all. Suspension is soon to be sorted, I have some front springs, camber tops and an adjustable panhard rod on the way at the moment and im trying a few tricks with rear roll centres instead of just putting stiff springs in it.
guessing this was the one on carsales for ages, looks much better than it did in those photos, i think it looks okay as it is just drive it hard and make use of it
The main reason i'm considering paint at the moment is because I get pulled over at least 2-3 times a week because it looks like such a shitbox, and one of my old man's mates owns a panel shop. Being on p's doesn't help me either though.
you live on the east everyone gets pulled over there
LOL 2-3 times a week. Holy fuck, I must just have bullshit good luck then.
Dump the shit out of this thing, 185/55/14s on 14x9s and it will look soo gangster that you'll forget about the paint.
But if you are going to be painting it, make sure you go panda bars...
Yeah, at one point it was every day almost haha. I want to keep it fairly legal, just because it's my daily. I saw a patrol come into work the other day and I think the colours would look great on my car, was a really dark blue with pale gold bumpers. I don't think i've seen a hachi like that, what do you guys think?
petes old rig, was for sale for ages, i was considering buying it at a point, just sand it back and give it a cheap paint, especially if you're cash strapped. how much can you get the shop to do it for you?
