Build up some weld, machine, and drill and tap. only real way to do it that i konw off, alot easier with alloy blocks though.
Hey everyone,
Im currently stripping an ae92 which got written off.
This morning I finally got around to starting to take the engine out.
The top 2 bolts which mate the block to the gearbox were only finger tight, once I loosened them I realised that there was a bigger problem.
2 or 3 of the chunks of the block which the rest of the bolts go through have broken off the engine block. So really there was only the top 2 and bottom 2 bolts holding the engine and geabox together.
I think it was a combination of dead engine mounts and the hit from the side which did it (car was written off, whole d/s strut tower was moved).
Has anyone ever had these rewelded on? Or even encountered this problem?
I just need to decide whether its worth taking the engine out now, or just scrap the whole thing...

The whole flanges have broken off, plenty of meat to leave the holes as they are.
But if its something which people have done before, I dont mind chucking the welder at it. I still have some cast iron electrodes somewhere...
I've done it to alloy blocks never an iron block though, cant see why it would cause any issues, apart from it being shit to weld.
easy as, engine will come out then![]()
