    Default carbying a 16v

    hey y'all.

I've chosen to go carbs on the side of my 16v to keep things basic and simple. Basically what wiring do I still need for carbs? just dizzy plug?

    half arsed post.

simple? $550 for a scorcher distributor , or $300 for a half faulty hyperpak ignition computer. $239 for a redline twin dcoe/dhla manifold, about $600 for used carbs, throttle linkage kit $100-200. I just bought a set of bigger chokes, idle jets, emulsion tubes and idle jet holders for my dellortos for $200... and that doesnt garauntee it will run well through the rev range still..

if you wanna keep it simple get a loom and an ecu and plug everything in.

p.s. forgot $70 for filters and $250 for trumpets and filters which the filters didnt even fit in between the brake booster.

    Haha, so it begins...

There is a thread on this somewhere.

You can also use a 4K dizzy with the vacuum advance for the carbs. Just need to make up an adaptor for it to fit a 4A head. Google that, there is heaps of info.

This has been discussed a few times on here, so a search should dig up some good info.

    Briefly what you need is:
    - Carbs
    - Carb intake manifold (big- or smallport to suit your head). Redline does one, as do some others
    - Linkages to make your throttle work
    - Airfilters for the carbs, possiby trumpets or other intake.
    - Ignition system. This is the tricky bit, but this has also been discussed the most. 4k dizzy, locked stock dizzy and ignition module, full programmable ignition unit, there are many possibilities.

And a good tune is a very good idea once it's running.

better than thou bullshit? I answered your question douche.

it is expensive and a pain in the ass to convert to carbs..

I did the conversion because I wanted to be simple and tidy. ERRRR

Spent like $2,000 on the set up pretty much. it's a waste of money.

Also 4k dizzy running on one will have a shit curve. and is also points = weaker spark, wears out quicker.

I would just stick with efi and a computer, get a piggyback or something you can tune and get a laptop to do it.

If you want a drawing of the adapter for the 4k dizzy i have one off another member on here.

In no way am I trying to pull better than thou bullshit. I make like $400/wk average which is like below low income.

This topic is in the technical index, look at the bottom of the engine conversion and mods section

I want any questions to be in there and therefore this topic will be closed shortly.

I also don't understand the agression, deekin went into good detail and genuinely tried to help

get real sam. no where in his post does it cover ANYTHING that I asked. this was a question about wiring. I then proceed to get a shopping list with someone telling me not to do it? I know what parts I need to get as I already have 90% of them. I really thought this question wouldnt be so hard for people to answer.

ok then no he didn't, however he genuinely tried to be of some assistance. How about just saying something like "thanks, that's ok I will deal with the cost, now does anyone know about how do do the wiring?"

I have also done it before where someone has asked to do something and I often give them a different answer than what their asking, however it still proved to be useful to them. We have no negative intentions, are not trying to tell you not to do it so there is no need for the harsh resposes.
