panel vans what engine and whats the maxium revs
also not talking about a V8 this is a bout 4 cyl reving above it std boundrys like at 9000 rpm
go read the performance forum plot they are smareter than you
or talk to the guy who owns the sprinter that had the single tail shaft fail
and this tread is only to do with 4cyl motors that have the worst harmonics and also the worst frequencys 5 cyl 6 cyl and also V 8 are so much better

Just to clarify, I was not only talking about v8s, I was also talking about 4cyl producing well over 600hp, and at times over 9000rpm. This includes ej20s 4g63s and sr20s, most of which were shifting above 8500rpm, none of these cars, some of which were campaigned heavily for over 5 yrs ever had an issue. I do not doubt what can or may happen, but like everything else, improperly designed/constructed products will fail.

Tail shafts are to be built to a specification, for their intended purpose. Not only the PF guys know that, it is common knowledge throughout the industry. If someone decides they know better, and does not build a tailshaft to be safe within its parameters of its operations, and it fails, that is purely because of their screw up/ignorance/being a wanker.

You asked what people were running, you were told, why act surperior, because sam asked why you made the thread in the first place, as it does come across as an odd question to ask, with so little explanation as to why it was asked?

well it seems the person that built this sprinter has put a 1 peice on it .sold it to another guy and it has let go .i dont know what the dia is of the shaft
i get hastings to do my shafts all the time and if i were to go to a 1 peice shaft it would need to be 4inch which wont fit
std factory cars ,in toyota come out with 2 peice and 1 peice shafts
i notice that corollas with 3 k and say 4a have single shafts and 4ag sprinters have 2 peice shafts
gunner your saying throw out the std 3 peice tail shaft from the evos and put 1 shaft in even wrx have 3 peice shafts for a reason
gee i must be f end dumb then
been around a lot of race cars 2 and most likely old enough to be your father

Seriously glenn? where did I mention that? and what 3 piece shaft in a wrx? I am not saying you are wrong, nor am I doubting the science, I gave you an answer for what you asked for, pretty fucking simple. If you didn't want to hear other peoples thoughts on the matter, why bother asking? Those cars, which were not built by me, but merely maintained, had 4in single piece tailshafts in them, and they did not have an issue, isn't that what you wanted to know?

Seriously right, you may be an old grumpy man, old enough to be my father, so good on you for growing old. Yes you are a smart man, with much more experience than I, and I respect that, and I will quite happily read what you have to say, but there is no reason to be a rude fuck.

Well, thats all good, but lets not make assumptions. Not everyone, that doesn't follow the "right" way to do things as told by the powers that be, are going to, or have taken short cuts. I know that I, and most of the people I have worked with, will not send a car out that is likely to harm someone.

But as I have said, I am well aware of what can happen, and I have, and always will make sure that any car that I send out on the road or track, is as safe as I can make it, and if I am worried, I will go ask a group of people, that I know, know more than I, what is the best solution to tackling a problem, in the most sound way.

This is a good thread, but I think it could have been delivered a bit better, rather than implying people are stupid, or don't know as much as others. I do think that 99% of the guys on this forum would not have known the potential for things to go wrong with tailshafts, but they probably also don't know that running 30yr old flywheel bolts can result in have your legs amputated either. But hey hopefully a few people have learnt some vital info, while having a laugh at us ay glenn.

this doesn't equate to knowledge, I am not saying that you don't know it's just a moot point
