    Default Help with AE86 Levin.

IF anyone knows ALLOT about 86's and is willing to come to berwick (vic) to have a look for say "a slab or beer"? would be much appreciated
I've got a 86 Levin with a 4ac in it at the moment and i just wont run, my dad is a fully qualified mechanic and my uncle has been working on carby engines his whole life and neither of them could work it out.
it cranked over once, for about 15 seconds.

its been sitting there for over a year taunting me,
the 86 is my dream car, any help is appreciated.

ALSO anyone who knows about wiring on MR2's my mate has one and has a problem with his loom, and needs someone to look at it.
same deal anyone willing to help (slab or beer)

    THANK YOU for your time.

ask your fully qualified mechanic and your uncle to help out your mate

about your 4ac..god knows whats wrong with it..you haven't provided any details of what you guys have tried or what not..lol and seriously if a fully qualified mechanic doesn't know whats wrong im pretty sure no one over the internet will..

AE86 is your dream car...time to put some money into it to get it working then i think

    buy 4age, install, drive off

What happens when you try to crank it over?

I'll +1 RichyRich and say that you're better off grabbing a 4AGE and fitting it up.
I can't get enough of my Silvertop in my 86

4ac are stupidly simple engines, I can't see how anyone who has any mechanical experience not find the problem in short order?

    do you have spark?

it cranks and cranks and cranks, and thats it, i've checked the dizzy, timing, sparks fuel going through the carby, but even putting that insta start stuff down the guts of it still gives me nothing.

i know a 4age is the only way to go, but i honestly just dont have the hotdogs to pay for it right now, atleast if i could get another 4ac it would be running

    thankyou though.

im assuming you gave the engine a full service before you tried to crank it over?

new engine oil + a quick flush?, spark plugs, spark leads, new fuel in the tank, new engine belts, new battery, good working alternator and start motor?

because im reading here where you say its been sitting around for 1 whole year doing nothing..there's only so much confident you can trust in a 28year old car that has not been in use for over 1 year

Given your the new kid here, i woudln't go asking for people to fix your car in return for a slab of beer. We all love beer, but fix your car yourself and learn something along the way. You'll be better for it.

As the others have said, the 4ac is a stupidly simple engine... Power the ignition and set your timing , supply fuel and it'll run.

My bet is either your timing is out to shit or you don't have spark. If your old man is a mechanic i really hope it is him not being bothered to look properly at it.

Failing that compression test it and that'll tell you another story.

I understand doing a service, but being a older car i feel that isnt worth it, anymore, if i can get my hands on another 4-ac ill just do that, (providing its running)
and i've already been messaged about a 4age, that looks interesting.

    lets just close this.

I did not directly ask someone to fix my problem, i asked for someone to have a look, that's a outlandish assumption,
i merely seek guidance and advice, i didn't try to force anyone to help i asked rather politely.

I understand it being a simple engine, so don't think my "old man" has not been scratching his head over the whole thing,
also dont bet when you haven't directly seen the engine spark and timing are spot on. i may be the "new kid here" but A: im not a kid, and B: i wouldn't ask for advice or to see if someone who (may have had to deal with this before) if it was not my last resort,

in the community of having a AE86 i would figure more praise i guess for trying. or at least asking other people.
i didnt think this would be a popularity thing? more somewhere everyone can be treated equal.

Everyone starts at the bottom, because there is noone at the top to help them up.
some people get to start at the top because they use 100 bills to wipe there ass.

thankyou for your comment, i will take it into consideration.

Had a similar problem with a 4ac that was sitting around for years, when it was dropped back into service the motor wouldnt start.
Ended up pouring some petrol stright into the carby and it started stright up, stalled a few times but took about 2mins on high idle before the petrol was being fed the by mechanical fuel pump. Ill assume the fuel line was blocked or something.
