if you follow the 4age engine manual that will give you a rough idea on where the 2 dots on the cam gears should be..but STILL need the backing plate to line it all up correctly unless your happy to take your chances..

Hey all just put a vrs kit in my 16v 7 rib
I do not have a cam backing plate which has the timming marks for cam gears to line up to.
Is there anyway to time it without the cam gear backing plate or do i start hunting for one?
Heres an old pic of motor after i crashed the last ke70 so u can see it with no backing plate![]()
timming?
seriously?
Buy the backing plate... Kind of important to get right
I can take my chances. There floating vaulves. There fore wont hit pistons if timing is out.
Ill try get a backing plate tho because i want to out cam cover on anway
Wat u trying to get at?
Will try and find one. On bit of a toght sqeduele to get this motor in
Unless you've changed the cams you won't have an interference engine anyway... it is the amount of lift which makes it interference etc.
Motors only been rebuilt to standard. So no interferance
