welcome
Before I get into want I want to know, I'll probably get flamed for posting in Technical questions, as there's that many rules and stuff on these forums, it's hard to know where I'm allowed to post or not with out reading tonnes of stuff about it. If this is in the wrong place on this forum I'm sorry.
Anyhow, to the point, I bought an '84 AE86 last Friday gone! It's completely stock standard bar the wheels as far as I know.
I just wanted some opinions on what modifications to do first, is there any that are highly recommended? Just want some opinions on what people think!
Cheers, Alex.

As above...
You won't get shot for asking questions, but have a look through the members rides and see what they are doing to get a good idea..
But i'd start by getting any rust fixed , set of wheels, then do suspension and then 4age, sr20 etc. depending on your budget / license you hold etc.
This is my order when I got my 86
-replace part that's broken
-rust
-rims
-front lip (ziptie it on if you lower it like me)
The car already has a 4age in it, with a single downdraft holley carb, I have even had her started yet, as I have electrical issues..![]()

I'd start then by getting it running...
Some people have successfully got the 4age's running on carbs with good results, though many have failed. It takes a fair bit to get it going. Search the tech threads for some info , but personally i'd ditch the carbs and go for an EFI setup as it is proven and just works once you sort out the wiring of it.
upgrade in this order
tires
brakes
suspension
lsd
gearbox
engine

My 4age ke70 is running on twin side draft delorto's (basically webbers)
It goes good enough
And compared to the 3 efi ones i have driven. Carby is more responsive. But i want to change because i know nothing to do with webbers/carbs etc. And if its tuned to run good on a cold day. Its shit when the weather is hot. So thats the downfall.
And they easily go out of tune :@
now that's more like it, it's silly to touch the engine without doing the suspension first. However pendingon how you drive the stock T50 gearbox is fine, I have never damaged one.

When I first got my car, the standard gearbox wouldn't let me put it into second. After some good old spirited drives, it fixed itself and goes into gear without drama. I don't drive like a grandmother and enjoy every metre of empty road I get and the gearbox holds nice and strong with silvertop.
As stated above, don't bother changing the engine until you've done the ground work. My list would be something like if I wasn't the retard I am:
I probably wouldn't even bother with the 4AGE for a little bit. Just enjoy the awesome car you already have
Some brotips for you;
BTW I'm just assuming this is your first car and you've done no prior research... Sorry if it's like I'm talking down to you!
Also; I'm very open to criticism with the list..![]()
