Default Check engine light while driving

    car - ae86
engine - 16v 4age, JDM loom and dash loom

So about a month ago, the check engine light came on once out of no where while driving up this one bridge
it happened again only ever on this same bridge
since then i have done a complete engine oil change + new filter, checked brake and clutch fluid, and radiator. .all fluids are top level so assuming that is not the case..

then the check engine light happened on a normal straight road while taking off at a red to green light..when the light comes on, the car still drives normal..

so why does the check engine light come on? when it does, its only for about 3seconds then goes away and the car still drives fine, thrashing it and its fine...i can not recall when it happens because it does it at very random times..but so far has done it about 5-6times since it has started..

what things/sensors would trigger the check engine light?

i would start at the O2 sensor .. and cat sensor if you still have one .. and check to see if you have any diagnostics code come up , by bridging the terminals ( i forget which ones) and maybe a knock sensor if you have one ...

Sounds identical to my speed sensor error i use to have. Although i mainly had mine during cruising speeds.

Suggest you check the codes if you haven't already. I cant really remember the code i use to get, 12, 45 and 54 ring a bell for some reason.

As above bridge your terminals and grab the code....

No o2 sensor won't throw a CEL, if there is no noticable impact on running i'd put my money on it being the spd sense error

Funny.. My speedo stopped working like two weeks ago (thinking cable broke) and haven't had time to sus it out yet..I don't recall if the engine light came on before or after the speedo stopped working but I'll see what happens when I get around to fixing it.

    Thanks for the input guys

Is definately a speed sense error...

The ecu triggers it on a combination of load vs rpm and only after so many seconds.
