Default Turbo 4age or turbo sr20 into 86 what would you go ?

Basically I have a new project I'm almost convinced on sr after abandoning my 4age turbo build idea but still not 100% here's my ideas and thoughts

    For sr20

    - red top full rebuild
    -greedy intake manifold z32 afm
    -tomei 264@11mm lift pon cams
-disco potato gt28/71 garret high mount on stainless manifold
    -sard 750cc-1000cc injectors
    -tomei rocker stoppers
    -adjustable cam gears
-rb 20 box rebuilt and sr bellhousing
maybe more to come will most likely run a vipec ecu

    Or

    -16v 4age head
    -bt throttles
    -bt oil squirter bottom end
    -272or 288 cams around 8-8.5 mm lift
-super tech dual valve spring kit
    -spool rods
    -je or wiesco forged pistons
    -knife edged crank
    -gt28/60 or 28/71
    - high mount stainless manifold
    -w58 steel plate box

    ?
My reason for Considering sr. Is pure ease and reliability in the platform I'm running plus it a factory turbo motor

I want something fast competative and reliable myn aim is around 225-240kw no more then 15 pound I will be running e85

Share your thoughts opinions and ideas ??

for a start the bt bottom end will last about 5min unless you change the rods, best bet is 4agze bottom end or s/top 20v at best.

not 100% on this but 4agte and big cams dont work, stay around the 264 mark

For your wanted 240kw mark the sr20 would be the pick of the 2, but even then at 15psi i doubt you will make 240, more likely around 200

those figures, sr20 is def the way to go IMO........just so much easier to extract that power from an SR......

From my EXTREMELY limited knowledge, mainly just crap that I read, isn't mild duration and more lift better for turbo applications? So for the 4age you'd rather cams similar to the specs listed for the SR cams?

Or do 4age/sr20 heads flow differently with cams?

I'd be more inclined to 4agte, most sr's sound like tractors to me. But SR seems to be the way to go for reliability. Even standard bottom end would be reliable at 240kw especially with a good tune on e85.

If your absolutely convinced that you need that much power than id highly recommend going the sr over the 4age. Even if both both engines can make the same amount of peak power the sr will be far superior in terms of reliability, level of aftermarket support, cost of setup and will have more torque throughout the rev range.

Your setup seems a little strange though, I can't really see much the benefit of going for a greddy intake manifold? Same with going a vipec ECU and running E85. If i were in your position I would try my hardest to retain the standard ECU and run something like a nistune, that way your car will run as smooth and reliably as it did when it was new (e.g. the vipec might have a cold start mode but 99% of the time the Nissan cold start will be much better). Especially if you only want to run 1 bar of boost. I think from memory the poncams are dialed in such a way that adjustable cam gears are pointless i.e. the optimal setting for the cams will be 0. One thing you should probably put on your list is a good clutch, its one area that you defiantly don't want to skimp out on unless you like spending more time fixing your car that you do driving it

And don't forget that all the power is useless unless the rest of your car is setup for the job. You'll probably end up spending much more on things like suspension, wheels and tires

As far as cams go, from what i understand the point of running aftermarket cams on a turbo engine is to lower the dynamic compression ratio. So you get all the benefits of a high static compression ratio (engine feels nicer off boost) and all the benefits of a lower compression ratio (less prone to detonation). However if you run too big a cam for your setup you loose so much dynamic compression that your engine will feel like poo
