Whats the specs on your Facet fuel pump, as far as I know they are self regulating. Also how is it wired up?
Was wondering how to tell whether I have a fuel pressure regulator failure or fuel pump failure.
so I have a 71 with a 4ag twin 45 carbed and run a speco fuel pressure reg and a facet electric fuel pump. I went out tonight and drove the car pretty hard then it started to die i was pushing the accelerator and nothing would happen loss of power and just sounded like the carbs were sucking a fuck load of air. I checked the fuel reg gauge and showed 0.5psi i left the car sitting for a bit and then it was ok for a while but the pressure never rose back to where it should be 4 - 5 psi.
So pretty much want to know whether people reckon its the fuel pump or regulator cheers.

not sure on the specs of it as it came with the engine i bought but yeah i have an adjustale regulator after the fuel pump.
also today i checked the fuel pressure and everytime i accelarated it would drop to one. I let it warm up and drove round for abit it seemed fine and the pressure went to about 3ish psi but had my regulator set to 5 as i revved it it just stayed on 3psi. So im not really sure what the problem is.

My money says the facet pump has eaten a dick / is getting too hot. Is it engine bay mounted?
I had a case a few years back where a friend of mines car would cut out / severely lose power after a thrashing as the facet pump would get too hot and cut out, however under normal driving conditions there were no problems.
You can have any brew you want... as long as it's a Datsun / Corolla / What is that?
yeah sounds right think it haqs eaten to much dick it just happens after a thrashing its in the engine bay it never used to do it though. but also my fuel pressure still doesent sit where i want it at 4 or 5 psi should i change the pump.

You can try relocating it to a cooler location, like under the car near the fuel tank or in the boot.
Alternatively you can use a low pressure rotary / vane fuel pump (again, mount it somewhere other than the engine bay) such as one available from holley. A rotary / vane pump is much more reliable than a facet pump.

Double post.

Is this the one your talking about
would I be able to run it without a fule pressure reg since it flows at 4psi?

flow does not equal pressure.

yeah i might grab it and still run the reg then
