Dont bother hardening it but if its a daily and u really want to get the new teeth cherry red hot and dip vertically NOT horizontally into a bucket of oil if u do it horizontally it will bow from cooling one side before the other, then heat it again but this time not as hot, just until it starts turning orangey brown then dip it again and ur done

okk sweet thanks for your reply, yea wasn't going to get it hardened as it will only be 2 teeth. thanks for your help man
Has anyone got this done in sydney?
Man u might aswell get 4 or 5 it wont cost extra its setting up the machine that takes time/$ cutting them is easy thats what i did anyways
yea but you can only use so much teeth without lengthening the rack its self. plus if i put too many teeth in i will get more lock on side then the other. will probs get 3 or 4.
how did you set up you rack? could you use a lock spacer on both sides once you had the teeth cut into the rack? and did you get more lock on one side compared to the other?
you wont get more lock one side then the other, as you will centre the rack
yea i know that, but what i'm saying is that there is only so much a rack can be re-centred to the left, before the passengers side of the rack becomes artificially shorter then the other. therefore you have to add length to it with a lock spacer or something else.

How did this go for you guys? Anything else you can tell us??
Any one done this with standard racks?
What about power steering racks?? Any issues with blowing the seals?
(I've heard of that with lock spacers of power steer racks..)
Why do you want more teeth cut into your rack?
