Ae71 headlight upgrades?

Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone has found a good setup (globe wise) for the ae71 headlights?
Mine are shit, and for a while I was considering going down the HID path, but, I have heard a few stories of people melting wires, parts of the headlight assy etc, and correct me if I'm wrong but don't hid/xenon (same thing?) need motors for the lenses to make them legal?
Cops are assholes in my area so I don't wanna be getting defects for headlights lol.
Is there guts from other headlights I can use that are better as well? Reflector wise.
I saw the ae86 article but none of the links work anyways

by the way most HID globes are 35W compared to the 55W of what you have now
