Car - corolla
motor / part in question - sr20. Looking at a turbo for it
problem - I have know Idea what it is or if its a good turbo
occurs/started when (if applicable)- I found it for sale
personal situation (if applicable)-
Found a turbo for sale. It's advertised as a hks 35-45. The guy said he took it off his skyline and he sent me some photos and it appers to be a t2 flange with a t3 adapter plate.
The plate on it reads the following:
Yg-6087J
GT2540 46T
446179-17
Only thing stamped on the front is HKS
Any help would be awesome
Google? You've never ever been to the HKS site? You don't know their range of turbos?
Maybe back in the old days, they were more, hmmm, respected? HKS was THE shit to have in the import scene. Things have changed since then I guess.
Yeah, don't buy it, those turbos suck. Get a 3037 Pro S or 2835 Pro S but not the plain 2835 or 3037. A plain 2835 if you want to stick to T25 flange for some reason.
Also, don't buy anything from anyone trying to sell a "HKS 35-45" wtf is that?
Thanks ken. Tho why does it suck? It's advertised for $500, I'm sure ill get it for less tho.
I'm only keeping a t25 flange for now after its rebuild just to run it in and get used to having a bit more power.
How would this rate to a jap spec s15 t28, as that is what I intend on having for now.
The compressor and turbine are "mismatched". Basically it means that the car will be a lot laggier than it could be for the power it will make. Hmm, what I'm trying to say is there are better turbos that will make about the same power as that turbo but be a lot more responsive.
I'd keep the 2860 than upgrade to that thing, might as well run a gt35 or t04 or something. At least you'll get the power to go with the lag. I'm exaggerating but you get what I mean.
maybe its an old design? maybe to give the impression of bigger boost by creating lag? who knows. i'd like to know why toyota didnt give us 4age ae86s.. or why aussie forester gt's came with smaller turbos and less power. [rant\]
