I got a 2wd 02 3L diesel dual cab hilux. Once you get going it's great but struggles a little on hills, but gets up them in 2nd or 3rd. It's consistent at 100kmph.
The only thing that I don't like is the lack of grip in the rear on take off especially in the wet, loaded or unloaded. It's not LSD and spins the drive wheel way too easily. They would be too dangerous with LSD in the wet which is why there is no option I'm assuming.
If I buy another one it will be 4WD

I recommend getting something with ABS though. Try pulling up at a red light in the wet at 80kph without it. That was a bit sketchy even with ABS

Landcruiser. Me and my dad towed all of my furniture on the tray, the 86 when I had one and it FULL of books clothes tv etc on a trailer, one of the wide ones for fitting 4x4s, then drove 9 hours, mad car. Its the only thing I want from his will . Oh it has like 600 000kms and the biggest problem he had was alternator. Toyota ftw.

EDIT: Also, he had enough power to overtake people on the way to Perth. Pulling a couple of tonne.
