Honestly steering box wasn't that bad... Didn't have to worry about rack travel would get as much lock as clearance would allow and once sliding I didn't really notice, will see how it drives after with the rack conversion, although mine will drive completely different to the last time I drove it when done, haha.

trust me, going back to back rack vs box in a t18, rack hands down

yes it takes more to get more lock out of it, but the response and extra feel is worth it

easiest way for the whole conversion is to go
    4a crossmember
    ke70 steering coloumn and rack
sprinter gearbox crossmember with one hole re-drilled
t18 centerbearing mount on ae71/ae86 front half shaft
    std t18 radiator

Is ke70 rack and ae71 rack different?

they arn't that I am aware of, why wouldn't you keep the ae71 rack?

I have supplied a modified steering column for a te71 doing my usual trick of a hybrid between the two. However it seems most people just use the ke70 model and chop the firewall.

Ah yeah I was just wondering because I have AE71 xmember and rack in my T18 and with a ke70 rack yes needed the firewall cut a bit, but I am using a ke70 pedal box as well, so not sure if that makes any different.

you dont need to cut the firewall AT ALL

may be different in your case jakel, but if your using a t18 pedal box, ke70 coloumn, and e7 rack, it all bolts together

I make 4age mounts to bolt directly onto an unmodified .ke70 crossmember, no need for an .ae71 crossmember or mounts.

Yeah I don't know I sold my T18 pedal box for $180 and got a ke70 one so I could still mount the steering before I get a cage done. I'm using floor mounted pedal box too. I also changed the angle that the steering wheel sits on so that might have something to do with it as well.
