What is this part question...

I'm changing to one of those chrome air filters for my 3A engine'd trueno and when I took off the air cleaner, there is this part which I'm not sure what it is:



As you can see from the second pic, there is a tube which leads to the exhaust side of the engine so I'm guessing that it's related to exhaust...below the air cleaner there is a tube which vents into the carb:



Is this the EGR and if so can the tube be welded shut or something otherwise is there a method to mount this to the chrome air cleaner?

egr valve or maybe air injection valve thing ? just remove and block off

The 3A-U is a birds nest of hose. What more is there to say. Rip out stuff I guess. Few people are going to complain.

be careful just bolting on fancy air cleaners, you might do more harm than good sucking in hot air. at least the standard air cleaner has the lil nozel thing poking out near the headlight area.

as for that thing you have there, just take it all off and so long as you eliminate all the vacume leaks (ie block everything off) youll be fine

Thanks guys, I managed to get an online manual of the engine and found that the tube is for AS (Air Suction) tube. I've currently got it blocked off with no side effects when driving so it'll probably be ok to weld it shut or something.

I also cannot image how many vaccum hoses there are in the engine, it I can remove some of them and still get the engine to work properly I would be happy
