Speaker wiring

Anyone know anything about stereo wiring?

Disconnected the front speakers, ran the wiring through to the boot, wired up the 6x9's, but only the left one will play even when connected to the right hand out put on the headunit! The headunit says the righthand side is palying i can tell because if i wind the balance to the left it goes silent.

Likewise, if its playing on the left speaker wires on the headunit, i wind the balance it to the right and it goes quiet.

This is using both the left and right speaker outputs on the headunit obviously.


Now, the wiring going from the speakers to the headunit is as follows:

Left:

Red/Grey
Purple/Green

Right:

Black/Grey
Purple/Green

I havent traced the wire under the dash to the front speaker i have only ripped out the front speakers and extended the wiring after the clip in attachment. I have made sure that the +ve and -ve are correct.

hey mate

the +/- of the speakers wont make any difference to if it works or not, only the phase. so just keep them the same and youll be right.

youve basically got it there, if its a pioneer stereo those colours sound about right.....

the fronts were working fine before you pulled it out? if so..you tried swapping speakers over? not a dodgy speaker is it? (though usually you at least get some noise out of them....)

there isnt a whole lot to speakers, just pos and neg and off it goes... (usually)

Almost %100 sure they worked, will swap them round and see if its a dodgy speaker, good idea.

failing that id run new wiring rather than using the stock stuff too. that way u know it is all fresh

were the front speakers working before u disconnected them?

before u pull out the wiring here is a tip.. grab a 9 volt battery, hook up the negative to the neg and the touch the positive wire to the positive terminal.
if their is a connection and the driver hasnt packed it in then the cone will pulse each time u touch the active to the active terminal on the battery.
check inside the speaker and check if the wires from the terminals are connected to the spider (the round disc sitting on the back of the driver(aka big magnet)) between it and the cone - are connected.

then u could just do a continuity test on the wires to test the circuit.

is your headdeck 4 ch or 2 ch?
if its 4 ch make sure your fader is set to 0 (zero) and not faded to the rear or front (incase u used the wrong wires (front to rear)) - u already have the pan set to center so your sweet their..

if u do all the above u will find the problem.

more than likley it will be a wiring issue... just please dont twist the wires together and leccy tape them.. if u want crakling speakers in a few months then thats the way to go.. solder then tape always.

check the earth, if using the old factory wiring, check that the -ve wire is not common.

are you sure you using the right wire combination. On all the head units i've wired the colours were green and green and black for one rear speaker. And purple and purple and black for the other. Then grey for one front and white for the other.
So that might be worth checking. Unless the colours your talking about are the ones from the car itself not the head unit cos then your probably right.

However if your using the standard speaker wiring and you have a pre 85 rolla then that is your problem. The stock system uses a common negative and there should be a warning about this somewhere in your head unit booklet that says don't do it or i will explode in your face!
Just run new wires the whole way and i bet it will fix it.
I didn't fully understand your post have you interchanged the speakers? Cos maybe one of them is just fooked

correct me if im wrong, but that should bridge the intetnal amps?

u can easily test that by simple continuity test.. grab your 2 neg wires at the rear of the head deck and put the tester on them.. will tell u if they are anyway linked.. the stock wires are pretty thin and an upgrade will get u some better audio quality.

what 4" speakers are people using? im using some crappy jvc $70 ones from jb hi fi and they really do lack in the loudness department even connect to a 50w rms amp. id use my nice boschman 6.5" mids but dont wanna hack up the nice jdm door card

every single speaker sounds different!. go down your local audio shop get your favourite CD/song.. please no MP3 rubbish.. u want full bandwith audio from a "real" CD.. put it in and listen to it and start pressing the buttons that switch to different speakers.. and choose the ones u like the sound of.
